Tabitha's Story

Life After graduation I attended RSCC on scholarship majoring in Business. In 1990 I married Doug Abbott from Kingston & in 1992 we had our daughter Shelby who is now 15. We divorced in 1995. I'd been attending RSCC off & on finishing my degree in Business Management & prenursing in Spring of 1999. During this time I worked various jobs to support my daughter & myself while I completed school. While at RSCC I met Micah & we were engaged Fall 1997 after I graduated from Tennessee Technological Center with a practical nursing diploma. We married in October 1998. I've worked various places since then. I worked at Roane Medical Center as CNA for 94-97 & LPN 97-00 specializing in cardiac. I took a break from nursing & went to real estate school but never took the state test-maybe later. Later I went to work for a staffing agency-very strict standards-2000 to 2003. I was sent to different hospitals: Park West, Ft Sanders, Loudon, & MMC in OR. I worked Labor & Delivery at Parkwest the last year of my employment with the agency. This enabled me to figure out which Dr. to use when we discovered the surprise on the way Christmas Eve 2002. In fact we had her August 2003 at ParkWest & received wonderful care from the staff & my coworkers. I became a SAH mom & continued homeschooling my older daughter. My husband worked in Ohio for a little over a year & we joined him for a short time before moving back to Oliver Springs. On the way back from Ohio I had to listen to our then 1yo say "Mama, mama, mama" from top to bottom of the entire state of Kentucky before she passed out after crossing into TN. After a family emergency arose in 2005 we moved in with my MIL to enable us to care for 4 different houses & the animals that go with them. My husband checked on our house everyday after he left from work. He works at the K25 site. The family member has improved & is now living back at his house so we don't have quite as much to do as before but we still live next door so we can keep ...Expand for more
an eye on him but allow him his independence. I guess we'll end up selling our house in OS as we have outgrown the space anyway. I was practically blind when I had a new LASIK procedure done on both eyes in Feb 2006. Now I can see 20/15 without glasses or contacts-well worth it. If you're interested in having this done, I can recommend a great DR. I went back to work in 2006 as a charge nurse in a local nursing home-not for me. Giving meds & caring for 36 patients during an 8 hour shift is too stressful. I was usually too busy passing meds to have time to have lunch or take a break. I dropped 20lbs in a month-though I needed to I would rather not have to fast to do it. I left that job & went to work for 2 homehealth agencies. I've enjoyed both of these jobs & for a while hardly got to see my family. I still miss the money a little but not nearly as much as I missed my family. I cut back to working for one agency but am presently taking time off to work with Megan. She was born with Amniotic Banding Syndrome caused from the amniotic sac rupturing. We're lucky to have her as this usually ends in miscarriage. She's missing her arm & hand below the left elbow. We go to the Shriner's Hospital in KY. She has an artificial arm she uses but has to have OT everyday to encourage 2-handed activities which is what I'm doing with her. She has gotten so proficient without it that she doesn't see the point of using it though she is more accepting of it now. I can hardly wait until she gets her myoelectric arm. My 15yo has gotten her learner's permit & constantly bugs me to let her drive-not enough Ativan or Valium in the world for me to let her do this-LOL! Just kidding though I do prefer my hubby take her. His nerves are better than mine. I can't believe she's already in high school. The 4yo looks more like a little girl-she's losing the baby look. My how my girls have grown & do they ever keep me busy. I'll try to update as things happen but I'm not making any promises.
