Tally's Story

Life Recent only: "'09: Loving time with baby Katherine. More work on house; beach for two weeks June/July where Barry and Baby K got close. '08: Fixing up house; renting beach house in CA in July. Granddaughter as of 9/13!! Waited forever for this! Thanksgiving, lost our second "son"--much sadness. '07: Elderhostel photo course and traveling in Oregon. '06: Finally got to Europe for a river cruise (Budapest-Amsterdam!), then seeing family in Spain and a few days in Paris. '05: River raft trip, then reunion in CT with sisters and most of my nieces, as well as friend Carol. I'm now a four-year breast cancer "survivor" though I never felt too threatened by it; I attacked it at a very early stage (mammo--I wouldn't have felt anything until it was too late!) by removing and rebuilding everything. Actually, having a vision problem in one eye scares me more. I love being the "old broad" at GHS, and my work as librarian actually excites me more all the time--I'll probably stay forever. I go to reunions of SPHS and GHS and love seeing the people there. Husband Barry switched teaching field from Industrial Tech to Art a few years ago! Very exciting and energizing for him. Not poor anymore, so we go to Suns games. School The teenage years are tough, and I wouldn't go through them again for anything--what angst! South Pas was a solid education, though; it set me up for the future. And my oldest, close friend came from there with me-...Expand for more
-Carol. I liked Yearbook and took great pride in putting it together; the Senior Play was frantic but fun (I ended up teaching Drama for years, in fact). I have good memories of people, but the best time of my life is as an adult. College After a short stint earlier at LA State, ASU came when my daughter entered kindergarten. I loved going to school! It was hard study, plays, parties, life-long friends,work-study, and meeting my husband. UofA Library School at 40 was the first time I went away to school, and it was great, too, but ASU was my "wild and single" experience. Workplace Teaching English was good--important but exhausting because I could never keep up with the paperwork. Theatre was exhilarating, but horribly exhausting--directing 3 plays a year while teaching 4 English classes as well! Teaching and coaching Speech was wonderful--energizing and wearing at the same time (averaged 13 tournaments a year). NOW: Teaching information skills and being a H.S. Librarian is rewarding and endlessly interesting: teachers and students come to me for everything, and my multi-tasking skills are in full play. Also, it's fun to try to kill the stereotype--I'm certainly not it!! There is frustration in the policing aspect, but if a few of the kids think I'm a witch because I won't let them be obnoxious pigs, I can live with it. I am one of those incredibly lucky people who is in the exact job where I was always meant to be. Life is good.
