Tamara's Story
I've done a little bit of everything. I was a substitute teacher, I taught elementary music until I was tired of the pink slips every spring--and the fact that teaching was ruining my singing voice helped make the decision to leave teaching easier. I miss the kids, though.
I have worked at Michigan State University now since 1992 in various positions on campus, and am getting ready to go back to school..yep, at my age. I think I'm going to give writing a try.
In the meantime, I do keep very busy, musically. I've done my share of opera and musical theatre over the years--both onstage and in other capacities. Favorite roles: Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Yum-Yum in ...Expand for more
Mikado, Mother Abbess in Sound of Music, the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Gooch in Mame, Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Oh...and I've been the Fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof so many times (professional and amateur) that I've lost count.
I'm very active in church activities at the local Episcopalian church.
I've been married since 1994 to John Syron, and our beagles are our kids at this point. The current beagle's name is Abbey.
My brother, Todd, still lives in the hometown with his wife and two wonderful kids. Sadly, my parents passed away in 2002 and my older brother, Curtis, in 1999 (pancreatic cancer). I miss them every day.
