Tami's Story
Life
Out of high school, I went to NIU for a year. Dad lost job, so I went to CoD for two more yrs...and ended up with an honors degree in applied science, and cert in travel. Got engaged and moved to Maryland to be with him. After 2.5 yrs I broke it off and moved back to Roselle. Met my husband 1.5 yrs later (1995), got married in 4/96. We have five kids combined..Tiffany (b 2/7/91), Matthew (b 9/3/92) from his previous life..and our three together...Joshua (b 11/4/97), Zachary (b 1/7/00), and Elisabeth (b 3/28/02). I had cervical cancer after Josh's birth, had radical surgry to remove "tumorous area" and faced a hysterectomy after I was done having children...so in 8/02, had the surgry with ovaries remaining==no menopause!! In 2004, found out my son, Zach, has rare genetic disorder, "FG syndrome". He has develpmntl delays, on autistic-spctrum, sensry integration, and bad tantrms. He has been thru 5 surgeries--3 of them major[brain and spinal]--but he's an awesome brave trooper. He's a "high functioning" special needs child, so he's in regular ed. w/an aide...a...Expand for more
nd doing beautifully. We also found out in 2005 that my husband has a terminal brain disease called "frontotemporal dementia"...it's similar to Alzheimer's, but affects different parts of the brain. He's completely disabled today, but still able to get around with a cane. I have become his caregiver on top of being a mommy and everything else. I wish I could introduce you all to the beloved man I married...God soooo blessed me. Unfortunately, the brain disease is eating away the man I knew. He's a small semblance of the man I met 14 yrs ago. It's always one day at a time in this house. Some days are great, and we hang on to the memory of a truly good day...and yet some are terrible, and we just pray to get past this day and on to tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a better day....but I'm happy to have had that sweet beautiful man in my life at all. He's given me sooo much---and his soul will always be present in the beautiful miracles we created together in love. His breath forever exists in the kiss of our three blessings. There's so much to be thankful for....
