Tammy's Story

Life A lot has changed, imagine that!! Life changes on a dime and you have to be aware of every twist and turn! And boy, has my life had those!! I was diagnosed with stage II Breast Cancer in November, I had the tumor removed a week later and another surgery in December because the margins were not clear. The good thing was, that there was NO lymph node involvement! The only thing that was bad, was that the tumor was 3 cm. So I had Chemotherapy at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion Illinois. I'm doing ok, and have had my "moments" thru it all, but what can I say about all my friends?? They've been very supportive of me! My best friend Jill Herse ( now Hinkle) flew from Florida to be with me at Zion when I had my first treatment. She also kept a another very good friend of mine Scott Stearns informed of how I was doing also. It's so amazing to have such great friends like Scott and Jill thru the years! Even though there have been big GAPS in the years!!! All my kids have graduated from the same high school in Lincoln, Nebraska. We moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ a year ago, 2009, for my hubby's job. Unemployed thru that time in July thru Jan 2009 and it was tough. Humbles you to say the least. I teach dance at the community college here in spite of the health problems I have had and believe me, no one hates it more the I do on being a patient. I hate being sick, I detest doctors, as I am a nurse!! LOL! J/K. Seems like I'm falling apar...Expand for more
t! I belong to an organization called USA Dance, it's a non-profit organization that promotes ballroom dancing throughout the US. There are many chapters in each state, I have Scott to thank for bringing ballroom dancing into my life, it has been fun and good therapy!! Thanks DUDE you're the best!!!! I started a club here in LHC also. I am also our clubs DJ for our monthly dances. Music is a complicated thing when you are a ballroom dancer!!! LOL but we have fun with it!! I have a back up DJ I am training for our club as we are growing!!!! I enjoy teaching ballroom dancing on Thursdays to youth and college students. I have 4 grandchildren now. Three boys, and a girl. Two of the boys and the girl belong to my 2nd daughter Becca, and the other boy belongs to my third daughter, Laura. Workplace I worked my first 8 years as an LPN at Lincoln General Hospital (you may have seen that hospital on a famous movie, Terms of Endearment) now called BryanLGH Medical Center I worked on the ortho/trauma floor, broken bones, knee/hip replacements, back surgeries, and what ever else in trauma happens our way. Lots of Car accidents too! Work on other areas as well, such as Psych, Mother and Baby and Transitional Care/Rehab. Like nursing a whole lot, love to help and teach people about taking care of themselves. Love to give shots, start IV's (done as a student RN) and all in all laugh with my patients! I'm on facebook and Myspace if you care to find me....
