Tammy's Story
Life
I've been living in Windsor, Ontario Canada since 1989. I think it's great so far. The cost of living is very high but I feel much safer here. Can't beat the universal health care system. I do plan to move back to the States one day. When and where? Well .... nothing is carved in stone as of yet. I was leaning toward Arizona as a possible home in the near future. The climate is much more steady and predictable.
In December of 1999 I had my first total knee replacement after several other knee surgeries and in May 2000 (yes ... only 5 months later) had the second knee replacement on my left knee. For those who really knew me this probably isn't a shock. I was Diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at around 17 but had it for a couple years before that. It was a matter of walking or sitting in a wheel chair at that point (in 1999). Thank goodness for a wonderful Doctor with an open mind to allow me to have this surgery at such a young age. It has totally changed my perspective on life! I can honestly say that I have a new appreciation for the simple pleasures. I refuse to call or refer to myself as handicapped. I'm currently waiting for a bit more surgery in the near future to replace my knuckle joints and some foot surgery as well. It's a painful process but so is everything else in life .... yes? By the way, my babies have been just as life changing. I'm still waiting for it all to hit me. Thank goodnes...Expand for more
s I have no time to think about it. It's the hardest job I've ever had and the best job I ever had all wrapped up in one! What else can I say? I'm a MOM! I'm just thankful for the opportunity to give birth at all. Arthritis medications have the tendency to sterilize most individuals.
School
My time at Fitzgerald was most definitely interesting to say the least. Had the best of worst times and worst of best times! :D
Workplace
I started working immediately after high school as an engraver (in fact I actually had to take a day off for commencements). Sometimes wiring, inking terminals or light assembly work at an electric controls shop in Troy named International Electric Controls. It was later acquired by a company named Stegner Electric Controls. I worked there for 2 years and left after the buy out. I moved to Canada and started a small business creating logo's and flyers for local companies. In 1991 I started working at the National Bank of Detroit's main office downtown. There were a few major mergers and acquisitions along the way. NBD -> First Chicago NBD -> Bank One -> JP Morgan Chase & Co.. After the JP Morgan acquisition I was offered a severance package. I took it willingly to spend some quality time with my 2 year old daughter. I worked overtime to the point of exhaustion for many years. I was an employee of
that Bank for 13 long years but who can pass up 9 months of pay to stay home? Not me.
