Tara's Story
The last 50 years in a nutshell...After graduation I spent 1 1/2 years at UofH, and spent some time working at various stores in Ala Moana. Eventuallly I married someone with a sailboat. We spent some years living on the sailboat, did a lot of inter island sailing and finally sailed from Honolulu to California. I stayed in Hawaii until 1986 (with the last 6 years on Molokai).
The next 20 years were spent in California . While there I took up hiking in the mountains, rock climbing and cross country skiing, raised three sons and refamiliarized myself with the mainland by doing a lot of traveling around the country. After 20 years in CA I spent about 2 years in Denver but then I returned to So...Expand for more
uth Carolina where I had lived before moving to Hawaii.... I had come full circle. Here I have taken up kayaking. Now if you remember me from high school, you would not remember me as athletic. I was never a cheer leader or athlete of any kind. At age 65, I am making up for that. I.prefer the long distance paddles and recently did a timed paddle on the Edisto River where I completed the 60 mile paddle in 1 day, 8 hours and 39 minutes finishing third in a field of 17 men and 2 women. Not bad for an "old lady" with 7 grand children and 2 great grand children. Mostly I paddle the rivers of SC, GA and FL but occasionally paddle elsewhere. I enjoy reconnecting with fellow classmates from SC and HI!
