Thea / Tedi's Story
My story begins in 1979:
I moved to Antioch in 1979, when my wayward mother tried to improve her life by leaving Glendora, CA. I was in 5th grade and started at Turner Elementary. My mom had some unhealthy habits that landed me in foster care, with my step aunt, Sherrie Boggs (Joey, Sean & Anne Boggs were her children). I then attended Kimball Elementary, Mr. Spires 5th grade class. I made some quality friends, Lance Webb and Scott Ramsey. Mrs. Millers 6th grade class was the best. I went on to do 3 years at Antioch Junior High School, and 1 year at Antioch High School. Sudden life circumstances and CPS put me back in southern California by the end of the year, 1985. I left so quickly, I lost touch many people I was close with. People I would likely be friends with this day.
Twin Peaks, Ca Lake Arrowhead Resorts community and Rim of the World High School.
Transplanting from Antioch, which was so fashion backwards,m to Lake Arrowhead was a mind blowing eye opening experience. It fundamentally changed who I am today. I went from being a Ozzy Loving metal head to a PIL loving punk. ,In Antioch you got beat up and called MOD for anything other than Metal or Hip Hop. Rim embraced the counter culture. it was fabulous.
I made life long friends at that school. Many of whom I still speak with regularly today. That small mountain had a magic way of bringing all kinds of styles, music, interests and socio-economical backgrounds together. We were all in it together. Stuck, on that stupid mountain with nothing to do. :)
Jobs sucked as well.. You were either making pizza, At Mr. M's or Romacks, or working at Santa's Slave pit, otherwise known as Santa's Village. If you were lucky, you worked at Stater Bros or Jensens. So you didn;t smell like Pizza and had a nice climate controlled building.
Do to family circumstances I was out on my own at age 17, and therefore causing me to graduate in 1988 instead of 87. That was ok, because I didn't do the Mountain High route. I received a real diploma while working full time to support myself.
1988-1991:
I bounced around from job to job, doing a lot of mechanic work and some Audio Video production work and I went to Club Metro a lot. I loved dancing and hanging out with friends.
I landed a manager position at Miller's Outpost, which offered medical that I much needed, due to being a type 1 d...Expand for more
iabetic.
In late 1990 I met the woman who would go on to be the love of my life and the woman I am still married to this day, I can thank Club Metro for that. :)
1991-1998:
I moved in with my love in April of 1991. we lived together 4 years and got married in January of 1995. Our son was born later that year. I played stay at home dad during the day and worked in the evenings. I loved being a domestic dad. Late in 1996 I started having extreme difficulties with my health due to diabetes. I went blind for 6 months, and was told I was in kidney failure. I went on dialysis 1/98 and by the end of September that year I received a much needed Kidney Pancreas transplant. I had extreme difficulty overcoming the surgery, but after 3 months of not being able to eat, paralysis in my right leg and dealing with medication side effects I came home.
1999-2014.
We decided that with my health issues, I would be best for us to save our money and just have me be a Daddy Domestic. I played the stay at home dad part, long before it was considered cool. Plus, I could cook, clean and fix the cars and property. (I have all the domestic skills and the wife, well, not so much) we literally play the opposite of traditional Ozzie and Harriet family roles.
I went on to be PTA president and volunteer of the year for the Riverside Unified School District as well as cool dad #1 :)
in 2013 our son graduated with honors and International Baccalaureate . He went on to Aerospace engineering at Cal Poly.
in 2011 I started dialysis again, because the transplanted kidney failed.
2015-2019
in September 2014 we sold our home of 15 years which I took from being the ugliest rental on the street, to the best looking home on the street and bought another fixer, in the countryside, on 1.3 acres. December of that year I received another kidney transplant. This time my wife donated via a paired exchange. She donated to a couple she matched and they donated to me.
As of writing this bio my wife and I just celebrated 24 years of marriage.
through my journeys I have learned a lot, been humbled and put in my place more than once.
I enjoy photography, photoshop, restoring old VW buses, building computers and helping others with IT issues. This property is a full time job.
If you made it this far, good for you. :) Tenacity!
