Levbarg earned a bachelor’s degree in Multi-Disciplinary Social Science and a master’s degree in Social Work from Michigan State University, and doctorate in Organizational Development at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Levbarg has over 25 years of experience as an adult educator, supervisor and leader in public health. She came to the UNC School of Public Health as the Assistant Director in the Office of Continuing Education in 1985. From 1987 until April 2009, she worked as a Continuing Education Specialist, designing and teaching continuing professional education courses. She provided training to public health professionals in all disciplines, as well as other health and human services professionals in North Carolina, regionally and nationally. She continues to teach courses in supervision, management, communications, stress reduction, mindfulness, time management, team building and working effectively across disciplines. She consults with professional associations, health departments, health care and social service agencies to assist with organizational restructuring, inter-agency cooperation and strategic planning. From 2002-2005, Dr. Levbarg provided orientation training to all 85 local boards of health in North Carolina. Dr. Levbarg has served on the Governing Council of the NC Public Health Association, is a founding member of both the NC Continuing Education and Advisory Committee for Public Health Social Workers (CETAC) and the NC Association of Public Health Social Workers. She has served on CETAC since its inception in 1993. She is a past president of the North Carolina Adult Education Association. Awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in April 2009.
