Teresa's Story

May 2012...........Where does one start when so many years have passed? After graduation, I attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX, concentrating on a Biology degree, in the hopes of going to medical school. During the fall of my sophomore year, my father passed away at the age of 46. I stayed in San Angelo until the last semester of my senior year (1979) at which time I transferred to UTSA to go to Occupational Therapy School. With funds a little tight, I was not able to complete my studies. While in San Angelo, I met and dated someone for six years, who was also from San Antonio. He seemed responsible enough, until he found out I was pregnant and decided he wanted nothing more to do with me. My son Aaron Michael was born October of 1982. I worked in San Antonio for Linz Jewelers, GECU Credit Union, and Lacks Furniture, until I met my future husband Randy, at my sister's (Linda Gustamente Snapp) wedding in March of 1985. He lived in Las Cruces, NM (40 mile NW of El Paso) and would make trips to San Antonio several times before I agreed to move to NM in September of 1985. He's always said that he fell in love with Aaron long before he fell in love with me. Go figure! He's a kind and generous person and has been my rock for all these years. Randy had been divorced for two years and had a daughter two years older than Aaron when we met. Dealing with an ex-wife was not something I was prepared for and those time were a challenge, to say the least. We married in July of 1987 and had our oldest daughter Hilary Dawn in July of 1988. I was working at a local bank and there must have something in the water, because every time I hiccuped, I was pregnant. In April of 1990, our son Sean Colin was born. He was born with a very rare syndrome (Charge Association) and lived for only a week. But God is good! because between He and the water of "prolific life", our youngest daughter Kaitlyn Vaughn was born in April of 1991. Randy has worked hard as a Physician Assistant since 1994, which has afforded me the luxury of staying home and raising my children. Aaron, now 29, has 3 Bachelor degrees (Bio...Expand for more
logy, Microbiology and Biochemistry) and a Masters degree in Public Health with a focus on Border Health. He is currently living here in Las Cruces and is the Administrator of 5 daycare centers. Hilary, now 23, has 2 Bachelor degrees (Biology and Microbiology) and a minor in Math. She currently lives in Seattle, WA. working as a cancer lab researcher for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Kaitlyn, now 21 and living at home, is a senior here at New Mexico State University persuing degrees in Psychology and English (and is unsure what she plans to do with either). I did go back to work in 1999 as a Director of Religious Education for our parish. I resigned from that position in 2007 after some hard head-butting with the the pastor. The ordained can be so stubborn! I have remained active with the planning of the Diocesan Youth Rallies since 1995. Both Randy and I have completed the LIMEX program from the University of Loyola at New Orleans for Pastoral Studies. Our faith in God has been our guiding strength and provides us with abundant grace continuously. Although I am not working at this time, I do manage to fill my days with duties of the land. We have 5 acres and live in the countryside (a high desert terrain), where I raise chickens and ducks and sell fresh eggs. I garden and tend to our 3 dogs and 2 cats. I just started incubating our own eggs in the hopes of raising more laying hens. Time will tell. Since the kids are all adults now, Randy and I do get a chance to date now. We don't have to tell anyone where we're going or what we're doing. Although, we have been greeted by Kaitlyn in the morning with... "And what time did you make it in this morning?" Needless to say, it's getting fun again! I don't have any grandchildren yet, but Aaron is dating a young lady who has a 4 yr old and I do get to play with her on occasion. He seems pretty happy with this relationship, so this may prove to be a long term endeavor. Well, when I grow up and decide what I want to do with my life, I promise you'll be the first to know! Until then.....Don't worry about tomorrow. God's already there!

Today, I had to say goodbye to my sweet Sophie. She got out of our yard and got to close to our neighbor's fence, where one of their large dogs pulled her through and killed her. She was such a cuddle bug. I will really mis
