Teresa's Story
Life
I am a teacher and co-administrator at Calvary Baptist Schools in La Verne, CA. If someone had told me this is where I would land I would have laughed! I spent 15+ years in the investments banking business. I married in 1979 and had a daughter in 1986. My husband and I divorced in 1989 and I never remarried. When my daughter was 8, her dad died suddenly and our lives took a major turn. I quit my job to spend more time with her and volunteered at her school. The principal offered me a job teaching for a ridiculously low salary, but I took the challenge! These have been the best years of my life! I got to watch my daughter grow up into a wonderful young lady who graduated from high school this year. I love teaching and working with "knucklehead" high school boys! I am active in my church and can't wait to see what God has in store for the next ?? years of my life!
School
The best thing about high school was all the friends I made! I also had some great teachers. I have a letter I received from Mrs. Beck (my algebra and geometry teacher) when I graduated. I also have a copy of the program from gra...Expand for more
duation and some other mementos that I like to look at occasionally. My favorite teacher was Mr. Sundstrand. I stayed in touch off and on with him for many years. I actually visited him and his wife in Oregon about 8 years ago. He was still the same funny guy! I think the reason I love to teach is because of the way he made class so interesting. I find myself reading Shakespeare out loud to my students and wonder if he would be proud! I miss some of the friends I made but I have wonderful memories! I went to the 20 year reunion, but haven't seen anyone since then.
Workplace
I am a teacher and administrator in a small Christian school in La Verne, CA. Our school has students from preschool through 12th grade. We are small so I get the chance to know all the students and families. I work about 5 minutes away from where I live and I get to work with Christian people every day. I can't imagine not teaching! I love working with high school kids, especially those that have fallen through the cracks in the public system. The money is not great, but money is not the long-term solution to happiness in life!!!
