Terrence's Story
Hello Classmates and other good friends:
During WW II our family lived in Sunbury, NC, near the early home of my Mom, while my Dad served with the Army Air Corps overseas. My brother, two sister and I attended the Sunbury Elementary School. Shortly after the war we moved to the Hampton, Va. area. While living in the Hampton area we attended Langley View School and Buckroe Jr High School. In the early 50s we moved to Newport News where three of us kids attended Newport News High school and the oldest of us finished up at Hampton High School.
Very shortly after graduating from NNHS in 1955 I joined the U.S. Air Force. The strong military influence from my Dad set the stage for at least three of us kids to follow..
During my Air Force career I had multiple assignments worldwide; too numerous to mention all. From 1955 bootcamp in NY to San Antonio, TX and another training assignment. Then a 4 year tour of duty in Germany and back to the states for a three year assignment in Mass. with a Strategic Air Command unit. Afterwards, I reported for a three year tour of duty at the Hq Strategic Air Command in Nebraska. After completing that tour it was back to Germany in 1967-1969 to work with the Armed Forces Courier Service. Back to the states in 1969 for more training and to finish up a bachelors degree in business and economics at the University of Nebraska followed up by U.S Air Force Officers Training School in Texas in 1970...Expand for more
. A Military Airlift Command aircraft squadron in Oklahoma was next. After a year, I was selected for a remote assignment to North-East Asia where I remained for 13 months. From East Asia it was back to Germany in 1972 where I remained until 1976 during which time a Masters Degree in Management was completed. My next assignment took me to the Pentagon. From 1976 until my military retirement in 1980, there were multiple assignments in the Washington DC area with two of them at the Pentagon and one with the Air Force Systems Command nearby.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1980, I completed a doctorate in business administration and subsequently entered the field of higher education management. My first job was as the Dean, European Programs (GSE-16) for a private university contracted to the DoD. Remaining in that aspect of the field for 4 years the job took me to virtually all parts of the globe (and I thought that I had travelled considerably when I was on Air Force active duty). It was truly a challenge and I enjoyed it tremendously. Afterwards I went into full time college teaching and retired from full time in 2006. At that time I switched my sights to a less demanding part time form of online teaching. Having said that, I should note that my Air Force career was clearly the most memorable and satisfying of a 65 + year adult work experience.
Very best to you all, It would be great hearing from you. Terry
