Terri's Story

Life After College I moved to Bay Area for 8 years, then moved to Washington State in '88. In various places have Square Danced/Round Danced and Ballroom Danced in competions and was part of a formation ballroom group. Been married for 17 years to a fellow So Cal'ian, but we didn't meet until we both were in WA state - we grew up only 10 miles from each other. I also have two wonderful children, three step-children (they have four kids, two more on the way). My daughter is 14 and my son is 13. We are very active in church, own our own business and I homeschool. We have two dogs (Border Collie (12 yrs old) & Golden Retriever) and one cat who has a lot of attitude, she is 15 years old -so I guess she deserves to have attitude at that age. Actually, we are down to only one dog now. We lost our Lady Belle (border collie) November 2008, she was 13 at the time and our Tabs (cat) December 2009. I enjoy living in Washington State, don't miss Southern California - too dry, hot and smoggy. And really - it doesn't rain that much here. :-) The best part of So Cal is Disneyland - we are raising Roller Coaster junkies. We had a great trip in Apr 06 when we spent 4 days going back and forth from Disneyland and California Adventure enjoying quick entry to some of the water rides because it was only 62 degress and cloudy but being from WA state now it was perfect temperature for us! We spent another 4 days at Disneyland in Dec. 08. We had an awesome trip! My children were chosen to participate in the flag closing ceremony at Disneyland this trip. We were given special entry to rides and rode on the private rail car of Disney's. It was perfect weather and no real crowds. We are planning yet another trip in May 09. We enjoyed our May 09 and December 2009 trips too. This year it's Walt Disney World and Cruise. Update: We enjoyed our trip to Florida in Dec 2010. The weather wasn't the best... m with the dolphins - that was an amazing experince! Cruising the Disney way is fun. Now, another trip to Disneyland coming up in Sept 2011.! School I have fond memories of 6th grade at Henry Elementary; and 9th grade day (Frisbie Jr. High) and silly things from Ike. ie: Cruising E; Toilet papering houses, Football games - when they were still at the Orange Show. One teacher that stands out for me is Mr. Lyles, he probably doesn't know that he did inspire me - he was caring and supportive. Military Didn't make it in, but..... I did try. Before I moved to Washington State, I went to see an Air Force recruiter explained that I had cataracts. "No problem" he says. Had a very funny (now that you look back at it) experience - traveled to LA by bus for the physical. The bus station was in a rough part of LA and I was walking around looking for my connecting bus at night with a hot pink suitcase. We had to stay in an hotel over night so we could be there first thing and spend the whole day, hurry up and wait, going through all the different tests. The second to the last thing they checked was the eyes, the examiner states, "you have cataracts"....yeah, I know. "Sorry, that disqualifies you...you are washed out" After a very long day, I didn't make it because of my eyes, which I told the recruiter about first thing. Now I understand about quota's! :-) But, there was a postive thing out of it, I met an other woman trying to get in the Air Force, we were roomed together. She made a comment that has stuck with me all these years.... "It isn't a religion, it is a relationship" She was a Christian - I wish I could remember her name, I would like to share with her how that little time together and her faith made an everlasting impact on my life. I've been blessed with great friends (you know who you are) one in particular who has been there for me since 7th grade and helped nurture the seed of faith.
