Terri's Story

Life Graduated THS in 1986, went to Castleton State College in Vermont, Graduated in 1990 with a Bachelors Degree in Communications (Journalism) and Art. Started a graphic design firm called TnT Typesetting in Torrington, CT in 1990 - which I still own and operate today. Got married in 1993, and divorced in 2003. Moved to Huntington Beach, California in 2002, and started a design firm called Purple Fusion Graphics, which I also still operate today. (Yes... a business on each coast!) I am also the lead graphic designer for SkullCo Technology Solutions in HB. I was the Entertainment Coordinator and Marketing Coordinator for the Connecticut Agricultural Fair from 2002 - 2007. I am very active in The Grange on many levels (local/state/national), which is a community service organization. No kids, but three cats - Bernie, Piglette and Squeaker. School High School was a good time. I have many fond memories at THS. I was active in extracurricular activities - I was in the Chorus, worked in the Theatre Department, was on the School Newspaper, and was VERY active with the Yearbook. I was an avid sports fan, only missing 2 THS Football games (home and away!) out of my four years. I worked at Caldor after school (didn't everybody back then??) first in shoes and then in the Photo Department. During my Junior year, I went to Italy as part of a school trip with Mr. Pirotta and Ms. Keywan, and 10 other students. That is a great memory! I remember going to NYC to see the Mystery of Edwin Drood with the Theatre Department. Lots of good times in and out of school. College My college years were spent in a midst of activities. I loved college - and consider it one of the best periods in my life. Castleton holds many fond memories for me. I was the editor of the Spartan from the end of my freshman year (taking over the reigns from Bob Stebbins) and holding the position until early Senior year, when I became a reporter, and Tricia Sacchetti took over the editorship. As a team, we brought the newspaper to a new level - and it was respected not only on the campus, but in the community as well. There were a lot of long hours and overnight crunch times, but overall we learned a great deal, and had tons of fun along the way. I was the News Director at WIUV, and also a DJ. Sunday nights from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM. The late night shift was a blast. I was involved in Student Government as the liaison between the students and the faculty. I was even on t...Expand for more
he search committee to hire a new college president. I was an SOS member for 3 summers - and loved every minute of it. I was on numerous committees, such as the Student Performing Arts Committee, and the Coffeehouse Committee. I would say that Professor Terry Dalton from the Journalism Department (he is no longer at CSC) was my biggest mentor during my college years. He was the driving force behind my career goals and aspectations. I would say that Dr. Joyce Thomas, though, was my biggest personal influence. She inspired me to think from within, and explore my thoughts and dreams. I use her teachings daily. Some of my other memories - living in a triple in Ellis my freshman year - itza pizza - being in Woodruff after the building was closed and how eerie yet amazing it was - the student "sleep-out" protest on Leavenworth lawn - a "catered dinner" (Carol's awesome chicken cordon bleu) for two on the steps of Woodruff hall in the moonlight - obnoxious fire drills - and meeting luminaries such as Maki Mandela, Maya Angelou, Betty Thomas, Mitch Snyder, Jeff Greenfield, David Broder. There were many, many good times. Workplace I've had a pretty simple career path - so far. Not a lot of changes along the way. I worked at Caldor after school while in high school, and during the summers while in college. After college graduation, I worked as a temp for Kelly Services for a few months, and then started TnT Typesetting in Torrington, CT. I serviced print shops, organizations and businesses satisfying their design needs. I also worked full time at Print Master in Torrington as their lead designer. In 2002 I moved to Huntington Beach, CA and started Purple Fusion Graphics. I still have TnT - and it's operational today. I am also the lead designer for SkullCo Technology Solutions in Huntington Beach. Having a business on two coasts is fun, and allows me the ability to travel quite a bit. I also was the Entertainment Coordinator and Marketing Coordinator for the Connecticut Agricultural Fair, which was held yearly the last full week in July on the Goshen Fairgrounds. The CT Ag Fair was a major fair in the state of Connecticut, bud sadly met it's demise in 2007. I do a lot of print, web, PR, and overall design work for the Grange - both in Connecticut and more recently on the National level. It's work that is ultimately a lot of fun, and very rewarding. Today - my graphics background includes designing and marketing for both print and the web.
