Terri's Story

Life It's hard to believe that it has been almost thirty years since I attended school at Jefferson High School. Most people who know me now have a hard time believing I was so shy and backward during highshool. So what has happen since then? Not what I thought. I never married. nor had all those kids I had thought I would have. I left that up to my sisters and brother. My sister Dee has two, plus a grandchild, my brother Randy has three, and youngest sister Jenny has two. So what have I done? Well, a number of things. It took me several years trying to decide just exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up and maybe I am still deciding..lol. I had the opportunity to travel with several Christian Bands. This was a wonderful experience. I also had the opportunity to work wth teenagers not only in my local church there in Lafayette, but throughout central Indiana. This too was a wonderful experience. I remember one of those teens telling me that they knew the reason God had not allowed me to have children and was so I could be free to work with all the teens. Maybe she was right. In 1997, I made the decision to relocate to Indianapolis. This was the best decision I could have made. There I took a management position with Lifetouch Portraits managing the JCPenney studio at Castleton Sq Mall. I later returned to school to finally get a Bachelors degree. In 2002, I received my Associates Degree. In August 2003, I celebrated two events in my life, finally receiving my BS in Management and being cancer free. After experiencing cancer, I realized that life was too short to spend 60-80 hours a week at a job. I left the world of retail and taught school for a few months before being offered a position with Indiana Wesleyan University. Last year, I relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio to assist in opening a new education center. Now, I am assisting adults, like myself, in returning to scho...Expand for more
ol to achieve their dream of an education. I am also a student once again with hopes to finish my Masters degree in the next year. I continue to be cancer free, two years now, and reminded at every doctors appointment that life is very short. For many years I lived my life working long hours for my career and school and family and friends sometimes took a backseat. Now, although I love my job and school, I am reminded that life is too short and sometimes you have to take a few days off of work and even put school on hold to enjoy family, friends and even a bit of travel. Am I still that shy person from High School? Oh, there are times when that person peaks through, but for the far most I am now more confident and live life to the fullest. School Gosh, biggest crush, a guy in my youth group at church that attended another school. I would have to say that since I was so much into music that Dick Yeager, Gary Branson and the former Jean Branson all inspired me. I was so shy and backward, but they were able to draw the best out of me when it came to my music ability. Years later as I traveled and sang in a variety of bands, I would be asked if I ever had proffessional training.I would always reply with the fact that my talent was first a gift from God and second I had the privelidge of having the best music teachers in the world. I think anyone who had the opportunity to be under their direction would agree. If I had to experience High School again, I would first not be so shy and scared of everyone including teachers. I would embrace the entire experience. I would not be scared to ask for help in the areas in which I was weak (Chemistry, yuck). I would develope better study habits and have the guts to be involved in all the musicals rather the just doing make-up. I will have to think about the funniest , happiest memories and get back to you...lol
