Terry's Story
I headed to U of C, graduated in 1974 with a BEd degree. Married a Saskatchewan farm boy in August of that year and taught Kindergarten at St.Gerard for 2 years. We re-located to the farm in MacDowall, Sask (100 km north of Saskatoon, 35 km south of Prince Albert). Taught until baby #1 was born in January 1977, a boy, Derek. Two daughters arrived in 1979 and 1980, Kelly and Colleen. Garry has been a cattle farmer since. We raised our family here and remain on the farm. Have had a few tragedies along the way - lost our home to fire in 1996 but rebuilt the same house in the same location. The kids graduated high school in Prince Albert and all three obtained degrees at the U of S: Derek in Kinisieology, Kelly in Education and Colleen in Agriculture. in a car accident in Saskatoon, just five weeks before her wedding and just a month after receiving her degree. Life does go on but with a very different frame of mind. Garry had a rare form of cancer in 2006 (parathyroid) but has recovered fully. I have taught mainly younger students my whole carreer,currently with Pre-Kindergarten children. Derek and Colleen are married with families. Derek and Janet have Riley (10) and Ethan (6), Brandon and Colleen have Kaelyn (5) and Marinn (1). The grandchildren are the lights of our lives. I am retiring this year after 30 years in the classroom. Garry and I would like to do some travelling and enjoy warmer climates in the winters. Life is precious and we do not want to waste a day.We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary last year with a trip to Hawaii last February. It was great!
