Terry's Story
Life
Central H.S. activities included 1953 Basketball Queen, Cheerleader 1952,1953, and 1954,Girl's C Club and varsity letter sweater, Student Council, Forum Club, Brush and Pencil Club, Y-Teens club president,School Play, Outlook Staff, Football Queen's Page 1954,and member of Delta Kappa Phi and The Buckeroos and driver of a baby blue Buick convertible. Oh yes, I was the big sister of John Ullery, top athlete and N.H.S.Member in class of 1956. We both went to M.U. I pledged TriDelt and he pledged SAE. I was a football and basketball cheerleader and earned a B.S in Education. John got a degree in Electrical Engineering.
I married, had two daughters, Tracy Jones Christie, who lives in St. Joe with her family and Robin Jones Lowe who lives in Rochester, Minnesota with her family. We first lived in Indianapolis,
Indiana then moved to Houston, Texas.
I worked for Houston I.S.D. for 33 years. After my divorce in 1972, I married my present husband, Edwin I. McKellar, Jr. an attorny with 5 children. He is a native Texan who was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He went to The University of Texas first, earning his C.P.A and then his law degree after WWII. He was a Lieutenant in the Navy and served as a navigator on ships in the South Pacific.
I earned a Master's Degree in Education in 1982...Expand for more
and then my administrative certification in 1986. I also have an ABD which many of you know means 60 hours of coursework for a doctorate w/o a dissertation or AllButDissertation.
I was getting burned out and my husband, who is 15 years older than I am, had to have a quadruple heart bypass.
After teaching mostly first grade for 15 years, I became a magnet coordinator in two different gifted programs in HISD before I retired in August 2001.
Since 1995 we have been helping one of Ed's twin sons to raise his son, Matthew, whose mother died of cancer when he was 16 months old. He lives with us during the week and goes to our neighborhood school which is 6 houses down the street from us. He just finished 5th grade there and will start to middle school in August.
My husband has Parkinson's disease
and no longer lives at home but in
a nursing home in between hospital
stays since February of this year.
We finally closed his law office at
the end of March. As Nancy Reagan
said, "It's the long goodby and it
is very lonely."
Update November 10,2005
My husband passed away on December 10, 2004. I am building a house in St. Joseph, Missouri near my daughter, Tracy, and trying to get my house in Houston ready to put on the market here. I plan to move to St. Joe by the end of the year.
