I entered the Army in Mar of 74, as an E-3, and after Basic Training at Fort Knox, KY, I earned an accelerated promotion to E-5. I ran a banking operation for confined service members for two yearsat Fort Hood, TX, before being assigned to Tehran, Iran, where I transformed the Accounting Office from a manual operation to a computer assited one. ger for the Defence Nuclear Agency. I then came back to Indiananpolis (Fort Benjamin Harrison) to learn Club Management, was promoted to E-7, and was retained as an instructor for eighteen months. I then spent two years computerizing our Community, Family and Soldier Support activities in Korea. The Army had by then decided soldiers would no longer run clubs, so after school at Fort Lee, VA, I went back to Fort Hood as the Senior Food Service Sergeant of the Second Squadron of the First Cavalry Regiment, which was assigned to the Second Armored Division. For a year, I trained cooks, many of whom were later in Desert Storm, how to properly feed soldiers in the field. I then scheduled the training of the Squadron's headquarters for deployment to Germany. I then became the Noncommissioned Officer In Charge of the Division's Comptroller's Office, and I served as the Acting Comptroller during the last six months of the Division's deactivation. My last duty assignment was as the Financial Management Noncommissioned Officer for Headquarters Command, III Corps and Fort Hood, and Command Headquarters Platoon Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, United States Army Garrison, Fort Hood. By the time I retired in Mar 94, I was one of the senior E-7 on active duty.
