Terry's Story

Life Hi to all and hope to hear from any of you. Not much was seen of me since I got married the day school started our senior year. Terry Jr. and Alta were born in the next couple of years and the marriage ended on a good note in 1979. Terry Jr.lives with his mother in Portales and Alta has my first grandchild and lives in Spokane Washington. I joined the National Guard in 1977. Met my current wife Glenna (Clovis grad 1970) later that year and married in 1980. We moved to Las Cruces in 1983 where our Kimberly was born. 1986 landed a full time civilian job with the Guard and moved to Albuquerque where Jonathan was born. 1988 was new equipment school and moved to Farmington where Jessica was born and went to Warrant Officer school in Wisconsin. 1994 required me to find a new home or face reassignment to Santa Fe. I wound up with a 5 acre lot outside of Deming and am loving it! Been here ever since. 1996 sent me to Huntsville, AL to school. The shop I work in moved to Las Cruces in 1998 and we have a pretty good commuting party. 1999 sent me back to school in Huntsville. Spring of 2000 landed the supervisor position in the shop and sent me to Huntsville and Ft. Sill, OK for Warrant Officer Advance Course and was promoted to CW3 in November. In July 2002, I decided to get back to my craft and am a mechanic for the New Mexico Highway Department. I base out of Deming and cover Socorro and Truth or Consequences. Free time has me listening to an array of Bluegrass, Blues, and Public Radio while doing home projects and metalwork. My life is mechanics and can sometimes be of help if you have any peculiar problems. Take it one day at a time and ALWAYS have fun. Time for an update. l Dad in Mar 2013. Made out pretty good with the Hiway Dept and retired in Sep 2019. Spend Oct helping Stepdad take care of Mom and lost her Nov 2019. Still a little confused about retirement and can't figure out which saved project to tackle first. Still workin' on it. Try not to spend too much time in front of the screen but should be able to get back to any of you that holler at me. I really love being outside. Newest update July 2023: Got a shop built on the property that does well at keeping me from driving the wife crazy. Nice space with plenty of room to work on just about anything. Still need to consolidate all the scattered tools but leaves me always something to do. Spent a lot of time moving wife, Glenna, to and from medical for cancer and other problems but finally listed her cured a few years ago and after some other complications, she is finally in pretty good health. Spent the last two years movint Jonathan around for prognoses on cancer in his tongue. Of the options, he chose chemotherapy and had about 6 treatments in late 2022. Then things took a turn badly and suffered some infections ( immune deficiency ). Details are tough but wound up hospitalized from mid December to late June when we finally lost him from a steadily downhill battle. It hurts but not so badly when there is time to prepare. He will be missed. If you are watching other family facebook posts, you might catch a pic of him Alta sent me. He pretty much always looked like the pic until he got sick. Thanks in advance for your prayers to his peace. Still can't make much progress on the pre-retirement saved projects but trying to get closer. Just need to pull my head out of you know where. Mostly have fun enjoying retirement and trying not to be stagnant. Take care and be safe.
