Theresa's Story
Ran a Half-marathon may 2009. Did it in 2:05. Read on to see the rest of my bio . . .
After graduation I went to Memphis State (now Univ. of Memphis) and got my B.A. in linguistics with a minor in French. Next, I went on to Vanderbilt where I got an M.Ed. (master's in education) and received the "Outstanding Student of Professional Promise in Secondary Education" award from the faculty. I taught for two years near Nashville, one of them at Brentwood High School where I also coached the Varsity cheerleaders to a state championship. That same year I met the man of my dreams, Matthew Getchell, from Indianapolis. We were married in June of 1998 and moved to the Bahamas for three months while Matthew supervised the construction of a Resort. We currently reside in Portland, Michigan because the company Matt works for has its headquarters near here in Lansing. I started my own educational consulting company for a while and traveled around the country training teachers in classroom management through a program called COMP (classroom organ...Expand for more
ization and management program) out of Vanderbilt University. The travel got old quickly, so I went back into the classroom teaching 9th grade English, Advanced Placement English and Journalism at Portland High School in Portland, MI. I am also a class advisor and a freelance writer for a local magazine.
Ethan Josiah was born to us in 2001 followed by Haden Thomas in 2003 and Austin John in 2006. Our boys are wonderful and we are having so much fun.
In my free time I run, play tennis, ride bikes with my family, try to keep a scrapbook and read to the boys.
We have an active life, most recently running the Bayshore half-marathon (13.1 miles) in Traverse City, MI. It was a beautiful course. I made it in 2:05 finishing #61 out of 144. Not too bad for my first long run. We have done a few 5k's and Matt does triathalons, but this was our greatest physical accomplishment so far.
I would love to hear from any of you. Please post your bios, too. I look on this site and other alum sites occasionally while I am checking e-mail, etc.
