I had this car in college that rattled, shook and generally
gave me grief for the entire four years of school.
Most of the time, it wasn't really an issue because I
frequently walked to classes. But when I really needed it,
like when I had to get to a study group across town or
wanted to drive home for Thanksgiving, that car became
my nemesis.
Unreliable, rusty and cranky, the car performed when it
felt like it and otherwise elicited feelings of anger, distress
and worry from me when I needed it most.

ame time, I didn't feel I had any other options, so
I kept that car, hoping that if I continued to put work into it
(and pay the price time after time) it would miraculously become
the car I really needed.
And yes, there were times when it came through, like
the brisk December morning when I was too cold to walk
to classes and praying for a miracle as I turned the key
in the ignition. It worked...that time.
But when I finally got rid of that piece of junk and was able to
buy a nice new car that worked like a charm, I never looked
back. I wished I had gotten rid of the clunker sooner
than I did!
I dare say there a lot of "clunker" relationships out
there -- ones where the woman hangs on to her guy for
dear life, thinking she either won't find anyone else if
she cuts her guy loose or that this is just the way
relationships are supposed to be.
There are a lot of men getting away with bad behavior --
the kind of unreliable, rusty performance I witnessed in
my car year after year. It's time to put an end to it all in
the interest of smart, fabulous women just like you!".
