Thomas's Story
Life
On the sideboard, left of the lamp with the flickering bulb, sits a picture of two men. I am on the left, and next to my younger self, the Betrayer. I travel the familiar room with my eyes, unscrew the chattering bulb, and lean against the ivy curtained window to wait.
School
Four black birds, small with tar eyes. A hawk, majestic and lonely.
Across the field before me, the four dart, peck and stab at the one. My lids close at the wrenching cries of the larger bird.
Silence, I open my eyes. 3 small shapes launch from the field, as one circles above.
My phone buzzes in my hand. I look down at the glowing blue screen and think again of you.
College

place called back then. The printed dates faded, but the memory alive. You were there that night. Our first words shared, an insight regarding the perfection of it all. Moon above, stars on stage, coloured lights reflected in timid glances.
Arms tuck in, crease in the middle and fold. Placed dateside down on black pile. I sigh, and reach once more into the bin.
Workplace
The phone is ringing again, insistent in it's plastic coldness that someone has something to say to me. I unplugged it last week, and when it rang again, I gutted it.
Wire and circuits lay in the dustbin. It rings again. Who are you?
Military
As they come, two by two from night's secret cave, I fight.
Destinations
Dust drifts from my sweater, glittering sparkles in the twilight.
I am made of stars.
My mouth is sticky, thick with the aftertaste of mint and weed. I thought I would find you here, at least what was left of you in me. Instead I am late and I am lost.
