Tom's Story
Life
I stay busy with my family and work. I am currently living in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after moving back to this great state from Georgia. I spent five years on Active Duty with the United States Army, traveling around the world. I spent 3 1/2 years in the US Army Reserve.
College
I was enrolled at Mount Marty College (Watertown Campus) studying Behavioral Science. I finished one year before moving to Sioux Falls, SD. I then started attending National American University (Sioux Falls Campus) in June 2009. In June 2010, I graduated with an AS degree Applied Management. In June 2011, I graduated with a BS in Applied Management. Then, in December 2011, I graduated with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management and a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Management. I completed my MBA in Human Resource Management in 2014.

I am currently an elected Alderman on City Council in Harrisburg, South Dakota. I work full-time for the US Deparyment of Veterans Affairs at the Sioux Falls VA hospital as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. I have also worked part-time as a Juvenile Corrections Worker at the Minnehaha County Regional Juvenile Detention Center for since 2006.
I previously worked for the State of South Dakota with the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Unit Coordinator and a a Corrections Sergeant for 7 years, leaving in July 2012. I also worked part-time at Lewis Drug Inc. as a Loss Prevention Specialist for about three years.

Military
I served five years in the US Army (Active duty). I joined the Army as a Military Police Specialist and spent nearly six months at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training. I was then stationed at Camp Casey, South Korea, with the 2nd Military Police Company, for a year before being stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. I spent the rest of my time on Active Duty with the 549th Military Police Company. With this unit, I deployed overseas twice. I deployed to Eagle Base - Tuzla, Bosnia, in 2002. I also deployed to Kuwait, then Iraq during the inital phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was staioned at Camp Virginia and Camp New York in Kuwait during the initial buildup. My unit went north into Iraq shortly after the onset of war and after Baghdad was liberated, we set up our "living arrangments" at an old cigarette factory in Al Sadr City, a slum in northern Baghdad. This factory was soon dubbed "Camp Marlboro". I spent the next year conducting combat patrols in Sadr City and surrounding sectors within Baghdad. I redeployed to Fort Stewart in early 2004 and was Honorably discharged. I then joined the US Army Reserves and chose a unique unit in Sioux Falls, SD. I was assigned with this unit until March of 2007, completing my obligation, and was Honroably discharged from the US Army Reserves.
