Thomas's Story

Life I joined the Air Force(most of you who remember me will realize that wasn't much of a stretch) in '85, going to Japan first. Then spent a year in Korea. Moved on to spend 5 1/2 years in Minot, North Dakota. Not exactly the first place I would have picked. While in Minot, I deployed to Cairo West AB in Egypt for six months during Desert Shield/Storm. Kind of cool being a couple of miles from the great pyramids. From there, I did a year and a half in Fort Dix as an instructor, continuing to instruct new Security Police in the Air Force when they moved the school from New Jersey back to San Antonio. Spent a total of four years in San Antonio. I then returned to Osan, South Korea. I did my last four years in the Air Force at Andersen AFB, Guam. With all of these moves, it goes without saying that I am divorced. But I do have a beautiful daughter named Meghan who is 18 and is going to the University of Hartford. I retired from the Air Force on 1 April 2005 as a MSgt (E-7) after 20 years and 19 days in. I initially took a job at HQ Pacific Air Forces at Hickam AFB, Hawaii as the training manager for the PACAF Security Forces. Great job and I had the opportunity to work with some outstanding people up there who truely believed in what they were doing--making sure our troops went to the fight with the best training and equipment--despite some ro...Expand for more
adblocks thrown at them from other, larger commands. I then was given an opportunity to work for the US Marines here in the Pacific through another contracting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton. Probably one of the smartest decisions in my life. Great company to work for and truely awesome people to work with up at MARFORPAC. I have had many opportunities to travel in the last year (California, Nevada, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Guam) and am looking forward to rackin' up them frequent flier miles in the future also. My travels for 08-09 are taking me also to the Philippines to support some of our exercises there. Slight update...since I wrote all that above, several things have happened. I took a position with Booz Allen as the Critical Infrastructure Protection Analyst for US Forces Japan Tsunami as well as the Fukushima Nuclear Plant meltdown. While incredibly tragic, I'm glad I was here to participate in the recovery planning. Left Japan in 2012 to take a Civil Service (GS13) job with US Pacific Command J34 CIP. Did that for two and half years when I got an offer from Booz Allen Hamilton I just couldn't refuse. Now I'm in the PACOM J32 as a Simulations and Modeling / Exercise Planner as well as the Joint Theater Level Simulations (JTLS) database developer. So far (as of 2015), this job has taken me to Japan, Virginia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
