Thomas's Story
Life
Life has its ups and downs, but I've had more ups than downs. I served in the Army for 21 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. I have three kids (now adults) from my first wife who passed away several years ago. The three of them have successful careers and families. After remarrying, we had a daughter about 2 years later who is the pride of our lives. She tries everything and is successful at most. She has taken dancing lessons and clarinet and has participated in recitals, she plays softball and soccer on city teams, as well as basketball for her school. Add that to the school swimming team and she has a well rounded life. She has a shelf full of trophies to testify to her participation and achievements. She is doing well in school and is proficient on the computer. She makes her mother and me very proud of both, her attempts and her achievements. My wife is from Thailand and ran her own hair salon until we left to come to the USA. Although the hair salon is closed, we use the apartment upstairs when we vacation and visit her family about every two years. My wife is now ...Expand for more
a successful business owner again. Since retiring from the Army, I participated in our family business with my dad and brother. Later, I taught classes at Ford and Chrysler plants under the TAP program. My specialty was home repair and home building classes.
Military
I joined the Army in 1965 to serve my military requirement. Twenty one years later, I retired from the army. I had great assignments and duty assignments. I served initially at Selfridge Air National Guard Base when the Nike-Herc missiles were there. After that, in 1966, I was assigned to the U. S. Army Advisory Group, in Bangkok, Thailand. I served four years there, then to the University of Michigan ROTC cadre staff. Two years there, and off to U.S. Army Customs Activity in Thailand. Another two years and I returned to Michigan for a seven year tour at the Tank Automotive Command in Warren. The Army decided it was time to go to Germany, so off I went for a two year stint in Heidelberg, at the U.S. Army Headquarters Europe. Upon my return to the U.S., I was sent to Fort Ritchie, Maryland, from which I retired in 1986.
