Thomas's Story
After spending fourteen years at St. Thomas Orphanage, I came to Flaget in a beat-up car driven by Ernie Sims, Bud Thomas was there to provide dirty jokes, and we laughed all the way from Limerick, especially since Ernie's old cars breaks didn't work. But Flaget did! It was a new freedom for me and I loved the environment since I was used to discipline but had been taught by Sisters of Charity who seldom...Expand for more
challenged me. Since I worked before and after school as a Soda Jerk and stock boy, I did not do very well academically but I learned enough to publish my first of 56 books while a student there but got no credit for it in my English classes. Most important were the true friendships made...many of whom have passed on but the love for Flaget continues in a special place where I was accepted and nourished.
