Thomas's Story
I am currently part owner and Principal Hydrogeologist of a small water resources and environmental consulting firm in Redlands CA with my wife, Joanna (nee Hawkins). I met her when we were both in the Geology program at Cal Poly back in 1981 or so. We've been married since 1986.
We both worked in Hungary during the mid-1980s for about 2 years on what was at the time (and may still be) the largest soil and groundwater remediation project in eastern Europe (Lehel Electrolux). Then, I worked on a water resources project for a copper mine high in the Andes in northern Chile for a bit, while Joanna received her International MBA from Thunderbird (AGSIM) in Phoenix AZ. After Joanna graduated, I worked on my MS in Hydrology and Water Resources at the University of Arizona in Tucson (go Cats!). My thesis was based upon past and on-going work at the Apache Powder Superfund Site near Benson AZ.
My dog Lucy (pictured above) and I are a Certified Dog Therapy team in which we visit nursing/convalescent homes, hospitals, schools, and the like to bring some joy into peoples' lives. In addition, Joanna and I are both involved in rescuing Catahoula Leopard Dogs from various kill centers (AKA "animal shelters") within southern California for adoption by others, either ...Expand for more
locally or out-of-state.
Lucy, our first dog, is a Catahoula/hound mix, whereas Braveheart (see photo album) is a purebred, both of whom we rescued and eventually adopted ourselves. Joanna came up with the name for Braveheart because he, like Mel Gibson, has blue eyes. Sheesh, I have blue eyes too. Oh well...
I never understood the "dog thing" until we got Lucy (AKA "gas dog"). Now it all makes perfect sense, although I did have a cat that lived about 24 years. She passed a couple of weeks before we got Lucy and I still think of her. Lucy and I tried to train for dog-search & rescue, but her strong prey drive caused her to "critter" too much, so we settled on the therapy route instead.
Enough for now. If you would like, please feel free to contact me directly at the phone number shown on our website. The website for Deane Consulting, Inc. is deanehydrogeology.com.
And it definitely does NOT have to do with work.
I would just like to hear from old friends and catch up.
Oh, by the way, I admit that I'm a cheapskate. So, instead of signing the "guestbook" and requiring me to upgrade to "gold" membership, just sign on as a "friend" or you can send an email via this contact website - otherwise you may never get a response from me (sorry about that!).
