Life
My Spouse
I met my spouse in a summer class called the Bible as History and Literature. I was 29 and had given up on the idea of marriage. I took the class just to find a girl to date. Two months later we were married.
My Pets
The cat is really the only one that is mine. When I was a wee lad, my parents found me throwing a kitten in the air. They thought I should have a cat, to learn to treat it properly. I have had a cat ever since. Their personalities have all been different, but I have enjoyed all of them.
My Kids
They are all great kids. Having children has made my life a happier experience. Sadly they are starting to leave home. The oldest is works as a software engineer and has a masters in Math and Physics from Tuebingen University here in Germany. Middle daughter is in the states, married and has our first granddaughter. The youngest is in Portland, Oregon living her dream to be there.
My Job
My job is great. I am an educational technologist for an elementary/middle school. I help teachers infuse technology into their curriculum and work with the kids to improve their skills with computing. m just getting too old for all that.
In my free time, I do a lot of hiking. My wife and I do weekly hikes on Sunday in the Black Forest. She has a book that covers the northern part of the area and we have put a small dent in those. It is fun because not only is it a great walk which includes stops for coffee, lunch and beer, but it is also a mystery since the directions are in German and the markings are sometimes challenging to find. When we are not walking, we like to watch some shows together or dine out with family, friends or just the two of us.
One of my hobbies is long distance running. I have been a jogger for over 20 years, but that was only a thirty minute run each workday morning. Now I want to push myself further. I have run two half marathons and am signed up for a third. Now I am training for a full marathon before the ravages of old age force me to stop.
A couple of summers ago I took and passed the first two levels for a Ham Radio license and have added that as a hobby. I broadcast from the US in the summers and have just gotten my station set up here in Germany. My call sign is W7TKE when I broadcast from the states and W7TKE DO here.
