Thomas's Story
Life
ItÂs Saturday November 25th at around 4:00 PM. My wife has just finished ironing my clothes for me and now asked me if I was nervous for about the 100th time. Well, ok maybe a little nervous. The real feeling at the time was nervous, anxious, excited and maybe a little bit overwhelmed.
See I started I was somewhat excited. Here is a class of many people that I have not seen in about 15 to 20 years. I was looking forward to getting back in touch with people that I at one time hung out with. Seeing just how people changed and what they were up to now also seemed exciting. Anxious because I was unsure of what to expect, lets face it we didnÂt always get along with everyone that we went to school with the were different social, intellectual and pier pressured clicks, all that seemed to be very important when we were in High School. Now over the years things in my life have changed, anyone that knew me new that I was girl crazy, as a matter of fact there were a group of girls that decided at the end of senior year to name themselves the calendar girls, I know this because they notated it into my year book. Nervous because my first thought was, what have I done by putting myself before a bunch of people that have not known me for the past 15 to 20 years and may feel that that tag still applies because that is all they have ever known of me.
I live about an hour and half from Shelton. So I headed out the door about 4:30. Knowing what the traffic is like on a holiday weekend on I95. And it was a good thing because once I hit East Haven traffic was bumper to bumper until I got near the rout 15 exit in Milford. I arrived a half hour short of 7:00pm. I decided to go a head in and stay warm. As I walked in, Dawn Baroni, Deborah Sandgurg, Sue Rosa and Dan Ortoli were the first people that came across. (No disrespect intended. I am using Madden Names because most of us know each other that way). While waiting more of the class started walking in ...Expand for more
and the nervousness turned back into excitement as the time went by and more and more of the class walked in. It was great to see the changes in people of course some of these changes made it difficult to recognize just who people were unless you looked at their picture with them next to it. As I talked and found out more of what people had done, were they had been to get to were they were at and were they are now. I started to see the preconceptions that I once had melt away. And the reception I had gotten from everyone was great.
We still seemed to sit in with the people that we normally hung out with in school which is normal, but the barriers that set us apart in school could no longer be found. To coin a fraise from the 80Âs ÂThe night was totally awesomeÂ. It was great to hear what people were up to. And it will be great to see were we are in the next 5 years. I am already looking forward to our next time together. The time did go by to fast. Almost as soon as the night started it was over.
There were a number of people that I did miss and wish that they had come, people that I was close to in school. And I am sure that there were others of us that felt the same way. Some because of were they lived, some because of prior engagements, some because of health problems and other reasons. I was saddened to hear of the deaths in our class. Some I had known about and some I found out about during this reunion. If you were one of the people that did not make it, please know that you were missed by some portion if not most of the class. If you didnÂt make it this time, please know that you shouldnÂt miss the next one. If it is anything like this one it will be great also. The food was great the music, well I am going to show my age with this one, my ears are still ringing because it was loud. The band did a great Job. Dawn, Deborah and Sue also did a great job.
