Thomas J's Story
Life
I was in the class of 1976, but I graduated from high school in '75 1/2. Then I went to Ohio State University, where I studied Education - Industrial Technology. I was in Air Force R.O.T.C., then the United States Marine Corps, Platoon Leaders Class (I wanted to be a military pilot, since I already had my private pilots license in high school.)
Then I dropped out of college and enlisted in the U.S.A.F. I went through boot at Lackland A.F.B.(San Antonio,) Texas, were everybody goes. Then went on to tech school at Chanute A.F.B. (Rantoul,) Il. I was trained to be an aircraft "crew chief," on "431X1e jet - over two engines."
Then I went to Charleston A.F.B., Charleston, S.C. and spent the entire rest of my enlistment there. Working on mainly the C-141's, then in Transient Maintenance, where I worked on everything but, the C-141's. My tour of duty was 7 Mar '77 - 6 Mar '81.
Then in 1982, I started to work for Rockwell International in Columbus, Ohio. We were building the B-1b "Lancer," the Space Shuttle, and other things (but, if I told you, I would have to kill you.)
I had a brain hemorrhage (an A.V.M.) in July of 1984, and I took a disability from Rockwell in Oct of 1986.
Now, I live in Woodstock, Ga, were I went back to work, in September of 2004. But, that was short lived. I have been working part time, ever since.
My wife filed for divorce in January 2005, and I got the divorce in September of 2006. I moved to an apartment when we sold the house, an...Expand for more
d now I'm living in a condo, by myself.
School
Who was my biggest crush? Well, lets see..., Liz Anderson, Elise Sunderman, Terri Bonner, Terri Landis, Jody Compton, Marci Allinder, Connie Holmes, Linda McCall, Wendy Lucia, and on, and on. Not to mention Cindy Straub, I never should of broken up with her in the ninth grade...
College
In the four quarters I went, right after high school, I took WAY to many hours. I was only 17 when I went to college. It was too much, too soon. I needed about a four year break, hence, the Air Force!!
I've gone back to school, but I've never gotten my degree. I have gotten a Certificate.
Workplace
I've been disabled since 1986, not in a wheelchair or anything like that,it's a cognitive disability [(I had brain surgery which wasn't 100% effective){lol}]. I can tell you what I did in Jr High, High School, College, and the Air Force, but I can't tell you what I ate for breakfast this morning.
So, after Rockwell Int., I went for quite a few years without working a job full time. I went back to work, full time, in 2004, but that only lasted about eight months. Now I'm working at Little River Grille part time, in Woodstock, Ga, making everything that the cooks need to make the food (my job title is prep cook.)
PS: On the lighter side... Whenever I see a new Neurosurgeon, or a new Neurologist, and tell them my story, they say, "most people that have that happen to them, either die or are in a wheelchair!" So, I guess I'm lucky?
