College
Did college online through AIU Online (they advertise on Monster.com a lot). Got my B.I.T. in 13 mos. after I enrolled as a Junior from all the credits I got from in the Navy and high school. Later got my Master's of IT and an MBA from UMUC.
Workplaces
Wasn't going to do nuclear stuff (that I learned in the Navy) - not enough jobs even if I wanted in, and one I found was in Michigan (too damn cold), another wanted a Bachelor's in Nuclear Engineering. Forget it. Liked computers more. Got Microsoft certified through a MS bootcamp and the B.I.T. Most wanted 5 yrs. exp. for perm. jobs, so I did some temporary jobs, bouncing around, gaining experience - Navy/Dell NMCI contract, a temp Sys Admin assignment with Nextel, then I landed at NASA's Langley Research Center doing computer work there, but there were layoffs of the civil servants, which meant fewer computers for our company to take care of, which meant staff reductions. was definitely an honor, but was hectic, commuting options sucked, and got an offer for something closer to home at Quantico quite unexpectedly. I took it, but regretted it. 6 months later they kick me to the curb for an e-mail I sent a user to stop spamming people after a complaint that was called in - management said it was their job & not mine. So then a company that services the Pentagon Police (PFPA), SRA Int'l., picked me up to do tech work. But they were bullies and created a hostile work environment. Left them to do programming at TKC. Did some Google Maps work. We lost our shot for a contract with SOCEUR (funding pulled at the last min), so I went on to a Google contract at the State Dept for 2 years. That led to a 5 year stint with the State Dept Secretariat, then I did a year at the Fed, 2 years back at State (Diplomatic Security), 6 mos on a Dept of Commerce contract, had to change jobs to something that was more vital when the government shutdown happened, ended up at DTRA for about 6 mos. FBI for 6 mos. then back at State for about a year. Now back at Quantico.
