THOMAS's Story
Upon graduation from W F West went back to New York to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Graduated with highest honors. Went to work on tugboats going north to Alaska. Then 14 years at Washington State Ferries. Every boat, every watch, every run. Captain since 1979.

ship in Port Angeles bound for Seattle, Tacoma or anywhere else in Puget Sound, I stayed close to everything until we were alongside the dock. 4000 assignments. Retired 10 years ago. Still do some part time teaching at Pacific Maritime Institute. Risk Resource Management for pilots, emergency ship handling for pilots, extreme ship handling for pilots. Qualified Assessor for USCG. Now enjoying retirement and travel with Deborah, my wife of 31 years.
