Thomas's Story
First, if you would like to get in touch, please google my name, Thomas Lecoq. It will lead you to a website with addresses.
Life has been a wonderful adventure so far. I could not imagine doing the consulting work I do now way back in high school and college. I loved drama, Downey Childrens Theater back in high school, but in college ended up in journalism. Worked for dailies, managed PR for Kawasaki motors, then discovered business journalism in the Newport Beach area. Today, and for the last 28 years, I've been helping pediatric optometrists start and expand their practices.
Along the way, Sue Given and I had a daughter, Amee. Among the most influential events in my life was doing courses first with est and later, Landmark Education. Discovered that life wasn't about me, that what counts is your engagement with others, and finding a way to make a contribution to something that speaks to your heart.
As it turns out, that something is a very special branch of optometry that works with kids whose vision interferes with their ability to read and learn. These amazing doctors also do visual rehabilitation for stroke and head injury patients.
If you have a child or grandchild who is having problems in school, I recommend that you log onto COVD.org and do some research. Same applies to any child suspected of ADD or ADHD. Check out vision problems before you let some MD drug your grandchild.
If you knew me, you know that I spent my high school years in the drama dept. Looking back, it was all the speech and drama classes that counted most from my high school years. Few days go by without my making use of the extraordinary teaching of Richard Miles. I've heard recently that he died decades ago. Oh how I wish I could have told him what a difference he made.
How many of us have done the same?

ne it much earlier. We have 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren between us, plus four great grandchildren. Amazing how families grow.
For those who remember my brothers and sisters--there were 6 of us, Maurice passed away about 3 years ago. Ed and Paul are still with us. My sisters Renee and Madeline passed last year.
Jean and I are active in clubs and organizations locally, plus several national organizations. Travel is a constant in our lives because I consult to practices all over the U.S.
We have an acre lot here in Apple Valley which we have sculpted into a desert park with lots of native species, a 180 foot long dry stream bed and nearly a quarter mile of paths that wind through the yard. We also have a cat and a Cairn Terrier named Bailey to keep us entertained and keep us company on the paths.
My wife is very into quilting and has won prizes at the county fair. For fun I belong to a group called Seniors With Inquiring Minds. We give talks to each other on subjects of personal interest. I've gotten very good at PowerPoint and have done some heavy duty presentations.
During 2007 I was treated for throat cancer. It seems to be gone. Its the kind of thing that makes you think carefully about what your life is for.
My daughter, Amee, joined the consulting business last year. She'd lived far away, but divorced and now lives a couple of miles away. It's wonderful to work together and see her develop into an effective partner. She will carry the business forward as I do less.
I would be delighted to hear from people I recall so fondly from those amazing Warren High years so long ago. How has your life turned out? What matters to you? It would be a treat to learn about you and your life. Please take a moment to send an email. My personal address is visionisfuture at yahoo dot com. I expect you can figure out the correct address from that.
Hope your life is going well.
Yours, Thomas Lecoq
