Thomas's Story
Life
I lied my age and joined the national guards when I was 15 years old until they found out that i was under age and released me in 1958. when i turned 18,I enlisted into the Marine Corps in January of 1960 to 1964.During that time period i married country girl from West Edmeston,ny in 1961,we had five children,three boys and two girls whom we raised together and they now have established careers in several fields,we are so proud of them all!
My wife Ruth and i are still married and looking forward to our 53th wedding anniversary in September of 2014!
I retired from H.P.Hood,LLC in Vernon,ny after 40 years as a manager for the wastewater treatmet plant.
I am presently doing wood crafting, have done several projects in the last several years and enjoy this tremendously. This is a talent i never knew i had until i retired and thank God for this special gift.

I always wanted to be a Marine when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I have a very bad temper and have learned to control it over the years,now people say i am like a teddy bear! To relax ,i do woodworking as a hobby!

The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Jerry Hoyle, because he was liked the brother i never had. We fished,hunted and bowled together for years until we loss track of each other in the seventies and found each other again in the nineties and kept that close friendship until his death in 2008!. ( I miss you very much bro and will see you sometime )
My first job was at junk yard, where I got paid $5 day to $30 a week. What I remember most about it is i was 13 years old and worked there in the summer months.
Watching my father go to work back in the forties with just a bolony sandwich and apple for lunch,making only $ 30.00/wk and my mother trying to raise seven of us kids,six girls and me, i was the only boyand must of gave my parents plenty of problems. Thing were pretty tough during the war years with war stamps for food,gas and ect. it was even tougher for my parents who were both in a home together because their parents could not support them until they became of age an went on to get married and had seven of us kids.! Lets see this generation today do something like that and stay together and bring their family up,it would be far and in between,if not impossible! This world has become so soft!
