Thomas's Story
Life
I got my Bachelors degree in 1995 and my Masters degree in 1997. I got married in May of 1998. I have a step daughter, Katie, who is now 17. She is a senior at Lakota West High School. I have a son, Nicholas (Nick), who is now 10. He is in 5th grade at Heritage Elementary. I am a structural engineer with Steven Schaefer Associates in Cincinnati (I design buildings and other structures). I have worked there since January of 1998. I live in Liberty Township. My wife and I went through the process of building a house twice. We will be where we are now for a long time. We put a pool in the back yard, and of course I had to make it 10 feet deep and install a nice diving board.
School
I went to Ida Weller Elementary, Magsig Middle School, and Centerville High School. I graduated high school in 1990. My parents still live in Centerville. I was a diver on the swimming & diving team, and I received a scolarship to dive in college.
College

from 1990-1995. I was on the diving team for two years before they cut the mens swimming & diving program due to equality requirements between mens & womens sports. I spent the summer of 1993 in France as a part of a study abroad program. I got my B.S. in Civil Engineering in May of 1995. I took a year off from 1995-1996. Then I went back to the University of Illinois for grad school from 1996-1997. I got my M.S. in Structural Engineering in December of 1997.
Workplace
I took a job with Steven Schaefer Associates in Cincinnati in January 1998. I have been working with them as a structural engineer since that time. Our office moved from Northside to Evendale in 1999. I got my Professional Engineer's license in July, 2001. I have designed small houses, large manufacturing facilities, high-rise office buildings, and everything in between. I have even worked on some of the rides at Kings Island and recently the new water ride for 2010 at Cedar Point. I really enjoy what I do.
