Thomas's Story
Life
Life has been pretty interesting and rewarding since leaving high school. I went on to college in 1986, eventualy got the piece of paper, and got into computer consulting around 1989.
I worked independently (running a small business with one partner  also a member of the Waukesha South class of 1986) for over three years before running afoul of the IRS. Of course, in high school they didnÂt teach us about the tax implications of running your own company. I found out the hard way!
I spent a good portion of the 90Âs travelling and consulting around the United States, so IÂve had my fair share of travel. I was still living in Waukesha and Pewaukee the entire time, though sometimes IÂd be gone for weeks or months at a time. In 1998 I completed the Microsoft Certified System Engineer program. rice. :)
By the end of 1999 I was ready for a change and I decided I was either going to move to Seattle and work for an internet start-up or go to Madison and enjoy the quality of life there. Although I had offers from Microsoft, Amazon.com, and some small dot-com startups, I eventually decided to move to Madison instead and work for a smaller consulting company. The pace of life is a bit slower here, the traffic is never a problem, and IÂm not working on any insane 60-hour-a-week projects.
So, life is good, and IÂm still having fun adjusting to Madison, meeting new people, dating, etc. And it really does seem like 1986 was just yesterday! I suddenly have the urge to watch a John Hughes movie and listen to some European synth-pop music now. And skip the prom, of course. :)
I hope life has been good to you all. May you live in interesting timesÂ
