Thomas's Story
On occasion I have described myself as "pathetically parochial". After Lourdes attended St. Thomas More High School then St. Joseph's College,all a stones throw from home. 1969 was a pivotal moment in my life. Political unrest is an understatement regarding the atmosphere in our country. The "center did not hold" and a lot of people got hurt. I had what you might call a rebirth in my Catholic faith. The gospel lifted my spirit and eventually prompted me toward the priesthood, thinking that I would like to have others experience what I have: a deepseated conviction that when all is said and done "all will be well".
So off I went into the priesthood with no idea of how much I didn't know. That kind of maturity takes time, perhaps 62 years? I first served in four parishes...Expand for more
; St. Stanislaus in Lansdale, St. Joseph in Warrington, Epiphany of our Lord in Blue Bell and St. Lawrence in Upper Darby. That takes me to 1990 and, perhaps, the strangest time of all - 12 years of formation work back at home base â St. Charles Seminary. Finally, in 2002, I got the job that I always wanted: being a parish pastor. I also got what I didn't want: a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2003. It's quite a lesson in humility.I have a good staff, patient parishioners and enough health to do the work.
Whoa, enough already! Give me an inch ... and I'll take a mile. I never met a bully pulpit that I did not enjoy,all this preaching from an eighth grader who got sick in his stomach at the thought of selling frying pan cleaner in an oral communication class.
