Thomas's Story
Life
Thomas Pease currently works as a project cataloger for the Library of Congress's Recorded Sound Section. He graduated in 2005 with his MLS with a specialization in music librarianship from Indiana University, where he also worked as a music assistant for WFIU-FM in Bloomington, Indiana. Before that, he worked as music librarian for three years for WETA-FM in Washington, DC. He oversaw their collection of over 20,000 compact discs, helped to maintain their computerized database, and was associated in several station projects. Thom is especially proud of convincing the Library of Congress's Sound Recordings Division to collect archival recordings of "The Program with Andrea Murray," a WETA-produced show focused on documenting Washington's thriving arts scene.
Before working for DC's flagship public radio station, he pursued graduate coursework in arts management at American University and was an arts administration intern with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He later pursued interests in orchestra librarianship by working for the National Symphony Orchestra and ...Expand for more
the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. Thom attended The College of Wooster in Ohio and earned a bachelor's degree in music history. At Wooster, he also worked as the editorial assistant for the journal, American Music. Over the years he has been associated with such groups and institutions as Ford's Theatre, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Ohio Light Opera, the Washington National Cathedral Choral Society and the Washington Bach Consort in various capacities.
Thom hopes to craft a career melding his interests in music librarianship, public radio, and recorded sound collections. He serves as the organizational liaison between the Music Library Association and the Association of Music Personnel in Public Radio. A published poet, Thom's other interests include hiking, Canadiana, and exploring the world of J.R.R. Tolkien.
