Thomas's Story
Life
After graduating from BHS in May 1981, I attended college in Bakersfield, CA, with my friend, Joey Triscari. I lasted at Bakersfield College until April 1982. I moved back to LV to help my mother out while she went through a bankruptcy. In January 1983 I joined the United States Air Force. After graduating as the top graduate in my training flight at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, I was assigned to the 564th Tactical Air Command Band at Langley AFB in Hampton, VA. My first official performance with the band was the recommissioning of the Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team that had been decommissioned after their tragic crash on January 18, 1982. This was definitely a highlight of my military career after spending so many summer days watching the Thunderbirds rehearse their skill over the blue desert skies of southern Nevada. I would record two albums with the Tactical Air Command Band. This band was the first concert band to record a transcription of Le Sacre Du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) by Igor Stravinsky. This band definitely made history and I was honored to be a part of such a world-class musical organization. However it came with a huge price for me. In February 1984, I was diagnosed with an inflammatory bowel disease called Crohn's Disease. This illness would eventually force me to accept a medical discharge from the USAF and end my military career with a service-connected disability. Needless to say, I was devastated. But for those of you who know me, I am not a quitter and began my life anew outside of the military that led me to North Seattle Community Colleg...Expand for more
e in Seattle, WA. I completed my education at NSCC in June 2002 and enrolled at Seattle University as an accounting major in the Albers School of Business and Economics.
School
My first educational experience was at the Bertha Mae Preschool in San Diego located next to Point Loma High School. I then began elementary school at Sunset View Elementary on Hill Street in Point Loma. I would complete the fourth grade and in the fall of 1973 my family moved to Las Vegas where I started at West Charleston Elementary (it's name has since changed and now it's called Howard Wasden Elementary). After completing the fifth grade at West Charleston I was bussed to Matt Kelly Sixth Grade Center in North Las Vegas. I then attended junior high at Hyde Park Junior High School. After finishing at Hyde Park, I spent my sophomore year in high school at Clark High School. During my junior and senior years I attended Bonanza High School where I graduated in May of 1981. After high school, I spent a semester at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, CA. I joined the USAF in 1983 and took a correspondence course from Saint Leo College (now Saint Leo University)that was taught on base at Langley AFB in Hampton, VA. I would not return to college until Spring of 1988 where I enrolled at North Seattle Community College. I earned an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in Accounting in June of 1991 and returned to NSCC in the spring of 2000 to complete an Associate of Arts degree. I graduated from NSCC in June of 2002 and enrolled at Seattle University in the Albers School of Business and Economics as an accounting major.
