Thomas's Story
I went into the Army and then college after graduating and went to work for Barnett Banks. In 1976 I left Jacksonville and moved to Dallas, Tx. to find fame and fortune. I'm still looking for them! I did find a beautiful lady, my wife Brenda, and married her in 1984. I not only got a wife but also a son, Shawn, from her previous marriage. In 1985 we had a daughter, Shannon. In 2000 my son and his wife had my 1st grandson, Chris and a year later a granddaughter, Sierra. In 2009 my daughter and her husband had my 2nd grandson, Tommy. I am wrapped around my grandkids fingers. Yes, I spoil em rotten and then hand em back over to their parents. My son, Shawn passed away in 2013 from a heart attack. On August 30, 2015 my wife, Brenda passed away from a heart attack. In 2017 I met a widow who lived in College Station (Home of Texas A & M) and we were married on October 13th. Laura & I moved to College Station and I am loving it.
I worked for many years in the Direct Mail business till I was laid off in 2002. In 2003 I started over working for North Texas Tollway Authority and held several positons. andled any emergencies that caused traffic tie ups such as accidents, stalled vehicles, and anything else that would cause a problem on the tollways. I was honored by the Irving Police Dept. and the Tollway for saving a police officer's life in 2004. In 2009 the Tollway recognized my team as the Outstanding Team of the Year. This was an accomplishment in that we had only been in existence for 4 months! I retired Oct. 31, 2014 from NTTA. I am now "Livin La Vida Loca!"
I was a member of the Jaycees in Jacksonville and served as president of The Arlington Area Jaycees. When I moved to Texas I got reinvolved with the Jaycees and served as President of the Richardson and Irving Jaycees. I won many awards in the Jaycees and in 1981 was honored with a JCI Senatorship by the International Jaycees.
Since moving to College Station I joined the American Legion and serve as a member of the Honor Guard which gives a final salute to those veterans who have passed on. I was recently appointed a member of the Historic Preservation Committee by the College Station City Council.
My wife Laura, passed away from cancer in April, 2023 We had bought a house in her hometown of Bryan, Texas last year, which had been her dream.
