Tim's Story
Life
Hi! I'm Tim Dicken. I married my high school sweetheart (Karen) at age 19 in the summer of 1985. In 1986 we moved from ETBU to Texas A&M.
Karen and I had our first child, Kevin, in October of 1988.
We had our second child, Kimberly in January of 1992.
In February 1999, our third and last child, Kelly, was born.
School
My parents moved from Naples to Hughes Springs in the summer of 1976. I began Hughes Springs Elementary in the 4th grade in the Fall of 1976. I graduated from Hughes Springs High School in 1984 as salutatorian.
College
My first college was East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, TX during 1984-1986. During the summer of 1986 between ETBU and TAMU, I attended summer sessions at Blinn College in Bryan, TX. After changing majors from math to mechanical engineering and finally to computer science, I graduated with a BS in computer science from TAMU in 1989.
Workplace
We moved to Katy, TX after gradution from TAMU in August 1989 where I worked my first "rea...Expand for more
l" job at Conoco. I moved to Sulphur, LA in 1990 for a computer project at Conoco's Lake Charles Refinery for 18 months.
When I transferred back to Houston I left Conoco and got two offers - one from Sysco Foods in Houston, and one from Microsoft in Dallas.
I actually turned down the Microsoft offer in order to take advantage of some relocation benefits from Conoco and chose the Sysco job. However, after 7 weeks at Sysco, they laid off the entire group I hired into.
God had a plan for that short stay at Sysco because a few weeks after I called Microsoft back and and started working for Microsoft in March 1993, there was one person who gave their heart to Jesus Christ in part because of my witness to him at Sysco. This person now works for Microsoft as well and is a deacon and pillar of his community.
In January 2000, I transferred from the DFW area to Denver, CO to change positions inside Microsoft. In August 2001, I transferred back to the DFW are to be close to family here in Texas again.
