Timothy's Story

Life Its been a long strange trip. I've lived all over Iowa with living in Des Moines being our longest in married life with Bette. Bette is an RN in the neonatal intensive care unit at Mercy Hospital. She went back to school eight years ago to study nursing and got it done. I'm very proud. I am working as a full-time horticulturist/gardener for a family in the area. They have five acres including gardens, a pool, pond, and many container plants. Its in Iowa only gated community. I love the parties they they throw especially the one they toss when the senior golf tourney comes to town. They own Iowa Select Farms. It's Iowa's largest pork producer. Iowa Select is either the second or third largest pork producer in the United States. They have over 500 farms the last I heard. The breeding stock is something like, 300,000 sows. I still enjoy music, travel, photography and working restoring our old 1910 craftsman home. Well maybe I don't really enjoy the restoration part that much anymore. I'm not as active in the church as I used to be. I still am an ordained United Methodist minister. I used to help tutor inner city children with reading about once a week at church. Back in the 1980's I led three grass roots peace trips with Iowa high school Methodist youth to the old USSR. This was in '85, 87, and '89. I loved it. In Russia we went to Moscow, St. Petersburg (old Leningrad), Pskov, Puskin, Petrovoritis, and Zagorsk. We also spent time in Estonia, Ukraine, Finland, and Belgium. ...Expand for more
Our three sons are all back in the area and working or thinking of going back to school or thinking about getting a job and working. No grand children yet. Our middle child is a drifter, I call him. He's going through a buddist faze of spiritual searching. But it could be worse, couldn't it? Would you believe there is a buddist retreat in northern Iowa near Dorchester now. They have built beautiful new japanese inspired buildings on what was an old farm. He spent two months in California visiting family, LA, San Fran, Carlsbad, Berkley and buddists centers. He was to go back April of '08 to spend time at a monastery. This summer of '08 I hope to build a new garage. I was even thinking of building a second story to look like a caboose. I've always wanted a caboose on the roof. I got the idea from our elementary school days from the book, "Caboose on the Roof". But maybe I'll save it for our next house. We're thinking of moving to a bigger home in Des Moines. We've been here too long... 16 years in the same home. If you are ever in Des Moines please give me a call. Were still in the phone book. The city is growing with a new arena, revitalized downtown, fine arts and great restaurants. We have one of the top ten art festivals in the U.S. and of course the #1 state fair, the Iowa State Fair! The state fair has done a lot of restoration and updating of the buildings and grounds. I could go on and on about the fair. Come see the butter cow. Had a great time at the class reunion.
