Tim's Story
Life
After graduating from Briarcliff in 1973, I attended UGA, graduating in 1979 with a BA in Political Science. Following UGA, I entered US Navy Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS) in Pensacola, Florida and was commissioned as an Ensign in October of 1979. For the next 22 years, I operated around the world (6 of the 7 continents and all the great oceans) flying the Lockheed P-3C Orion, a 4 engine turbo-prop aircraft (see my "photo gallery") specialized for submarine hunting and tracking. In addition to flying the P-3, I was also stationed aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) aircraft carrier and have 6 "cat-shots" (catapult launches) and 6 "traps" (arrested landings) in the S-3B Viking. I served in the Pentagon in the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) office prior to 9/11, and lost 2 dear friends in the Pentagon attack. I have 2 Masters degrees: MBA (University of West Florida, Pensacola) and an MA (National Security and Strategic Studies) taken from the Navy War College, Newport, RI.
I retired from the Navy in May, 2001 as a Commander and began a second career with Lockheed Martin Corp (built the P-3 Orion, S-3 Viking, U-2 Dragonfly, F-117, F-22 Raptor, and the new Joint Strike Fighter(F-35 Lightning II)) as a Director of Business Development.
I am married to the ...Expand for more
former Susan Coleman of Dunwoody, GA (we met at UGA), and we have one son (Joshua) who graduated from college in 2005 and now lives and works in Alexandria, VA. Susan and I reside in southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay and ply the waters regularly on our boat "Comfortably Numb". I am an avid fisherman and remain a huge Dawg Fan, attending the UGA-UF game most years as well as any UGA Bowl Game.
Since retiring from the Navy, I really enjoy seeing and communicating regularly with old BHS'ers and have re-connected with several that are truly life-long friends; I had missed them. I am in Marietta with regularity for Lockheed Martin business and I'm always up for a beer with an old friend and a smile!
