Tim's Story
Life
After graduation, I attended David Lipscomb University and graduated with a BA in Mathematics (who would guess I would do math!). I moved to Atlanta where I worked in the Actuarial Department of Cotton States Insurance for a year. I left Atlanta and worked on my teaching certification at Austin Peay.
I returned to Atlanta to teach for ten years in Gwinnett County Public Schools and received my MEd. from Emory University.
After volunteering in the Olympic Village at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, I moved to Duesseldorf, Germany to teach for two years. From Duesseldorf, I moved to London for a year and then to Caracas, Venezuela.
In June of 2002, I built a house in South Florida and started a high school math position near West Palm Beach. I lived near the beach, my sister - Sharon, and my parents. I sold my house after just 6 months to return to Atlanta for two years. I liked living in Atlanta v...Expand for more
ery much, but hated teaching in innercity schools with so little support!
I moved to Stavanger, Norway where I taught 8th grade algebra I and IB Math Studies to juniors and seniors. While living in Stavanger I travelled all over Europe, but realized my heart was in South America.
I taught for a year at Colegio Nueva Granda in Bogota, Colombia. I loved it there, but left because I thought my blood pressure was being affected by the altitude!
I moved to the Costa del Sol in Spain where I am teaching math at Sototgrande International School. I live on the beach and love the area, but the school sucks! I am leaving to return to Bogota.
I left Bogota in June of 2011 after a year of multiple cancer treatments. I lived in Tampa for a year before moving back to Atlanta. I spent 10 years in Fulton County Schools before moving abroad again in 2022. I am currently the principal of the secondary school in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
