Tim's Story
Life
I work on flight simulators, which basically means that I fiddle around with video games for a living. It's a great gig. I'm married with a step-daughter and a sheltie, and in my spare time I sing tenor with the choir at First United Methodist Church in Mansfield.
School
Hmmm ... Well, that was twenty years ago, and I've slept since then. I'm sure I did something, but I can never quite remember what it was. I have vague memories of a teepee, a power saw, and a lemon wedge. That's about it.
College
I got my Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering from UT Arlington (No football, but we kick butt in Formula SAE racing!) in 1990, a Master's in the same discipline in 1993, and I would have gotten my Ph.D from UTA, except that my advisor skinned out for the University of Oklahoma....Expand for more
Which is just as well, since if I ever do finish up, it's proably gonna be with a different dissertation topic. (Note: if you take too long to finish, you end up getting really, really tired of what you're writing about...)
Workplace
I taught at UTA for a total of about four years, mostly Dynamics, but I've also taught Statics and Astronautics.
I worked for two and a half years on air traffic control software, until the lot of us got sacked after 9/11. But it turned out all right. I work on flight simulation software these days, which is pretty much what I wanted to do all along.
Military
I was an Air Force ROTC cadet for two years, from 1985 to 1987. I decided not to continue, but it was a great experience. I was also active in the Civil Air Patrol from 1999 through 2002.
