Life
Five Fun Facts About Me:
1) My wife Liz and I officially became Florida residents in 2023 after living in downtown Chicago since 2000. We still maintain a second residence in Chicago however, that we reside in primarily in the summer and early fall months. It’s in the same downtown high rise we’ve been living in for years, but we’ve downsized to a one bedroom.
Our new permanent residence is in a mid-rise in Naples, Florida. We love Naples and our life living just off the gulf. Like is much more laid back there!
2) I wrote a book about growing up in Hamilton, Ohio. The title is "The Coterian Retreat--Growing Up in Hamilton, Ohio." You can still purchase it through Amazon.com--or on E-Bay. The book is a memoir which contains thirty-three self-contained chapters or remembrances of significant moments in my life during elementary school, junior high and high school. Local alums should find it particularly interesting. And yes...it contains a lot of names Hamiltonians would recognize--but it's very upbeat and positive.
3) I am now ploddingly authoring a second book. Progess is taking place in super-slow-motion. People have chiseled messages on stone tablets faster than I crank out pages.
4) I love to travel, especially to locales where there are nice restaurants, beaches and an OCEAN. I am also an admitted fan of Walt Disney World and New Orleans, Louisiana. Although we started late in life, we've been to every Mardi Gras except two since 2003. We also go to Disney at least once a year-- and we don't even have any kids. Some would say that Disney World and Bourbon Street are on the opposite ends of the spectrum...but they are both wonderful escapes from my own reality.
5) I spent much of my professional life in theater-management where I coddled a colorful assortment of Love Boat-quality stars. Does the name Charo ring a bell?

School
Gee...a school biography?? Where do I begin? My grades at Garfield High in Hamilton, Ohio sucked--and I usually did just enough to get by. I do, however, vehemently deny that Garfield becoming a junior high school had anything to do with my enrollment there! ...Expand for more
My major interests in high school were extra-curricular activities and women--and I actually had some limited success with the former.
I was lucky enough to have an older sister who did very well in school, and I rode her coattails out of Hamilton. I went to DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and did considerably better in college than I did in high school. Since I had received scholarships and grants that required both my attendance and honest efforts in my classes--I had little choice.
I got a degree in secondary education, but I never taught--and majored in speech and theatre, but rarely speak publically and NEVER act. I worked in theatre for a number of years, but on the marketing and administration side of the business.
I miss Hamilton and miss a lot of the friendships I developed while I was there. As I say in my autobiography, I think you may have to leave Hamilton to realize just how wonderful it is.
Classmates.com has provided the opportunity to move a few of the people from my past back into my present--and I hope a few more people will allow themselves to be rediscovered. I'm not done looking.
College
Depauw University...What the heck was I doing there, anyway? My college experience somewhat fell into my lap. I am well-aware that I am in no way representative of the average DePauw student--but I did love my days in Greencastle, Indiana. I met some of the most interesting people I've ever met, and we discussed topics that I wish I would allow myself to talk about as freely today.
DePauw gave me some much-needed social skills (while tolerating my occasional need to go completely berserk), and sometimes pushed me to the brink of my intellectual capabilities. It kicked some of the cockiness out of me, and yet managed to make me a little stronger. Those four years presented me a once in a lifetime opportunity. I sincerely believed I was venturing out on my own, and yet I remained in a largely-protected and relatively sterile environment.
I miss my college friends and have rarely found people so able to meet my insatiable need for earnest discussion and sharing. I'd love to hear from both those close to me and anyone else that was affected enough by my existence to feel compelled to reopen a brief or sustained line of communication. I can be found in Naples, FL or in Chicago in the summer months. Where are you??
