Tim's Story
Life
After high school, I went to Central Michigan University and didn't do well (I wasn't ready for school). I left school, went to work at Hitachi in Edmore and eventually went back to school.
I graduated from CMU in August 1984 with a degree in Accounting and went to work for one of the "Big Eight" accounting firms. After two years at the CPA firm (and earning my CPA letters), I left to work for a transportation company in Detroit.
I met my beautiful wife in Baltimore. In fact, I told my friends when I first saw her that "she's the one"! That was sixteen years ago and she's "still the one"!
We moved to Huntsville, AL in 1990 when I took a job with a computer company. I was given the opportunity to learn everything about computers there and took advantage of all of it. Eventually, I was writing books about Microsoft Excel and was named one of the five Microsoft Excel "MVPs" in the world.

mpany in 1994 and joined a small consulting in Seattle that specialized in Excel (and our largest client was Microsoft).
In 1998, I started Applied OLAP, Inc to have the freedom to write the kind of software that I wanted to write. Our first contract was with AT&T and we were on our way! Currently, we are working on some very exciting new software using "web service" and "xml" technology.
Darlene and I still live in Huntsville, AL with our two youngest kids, Billy (20) and Logan (14). In my spare time, I tinker with my airplane (a 1970 Cessna 210K - 6 seats/185 mph) and rock climb (several days a week). Darlene is constantly working on impressing her sense of style upon our house and she also works out several days a week (and sometimes climbs with me!)
Although I played the part of a geek during high school, things have turned out alright.
