Timothy's Story
Life
After several false starts, I finally finished university in 1982. My career has had its rough spots, but has done well. I married a girl I met in college, and we have two great kids.
Shelby cars have been a great hobby, and I've been able to meet Carroll Shelby once. I've also met Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, and consider myself fortunate in that.
I guess I'm still eccentric, but I'm successful enough that it's "eccentric" and not "weird." I'm still friends with a few folks in Orland, as well as in Los Angeles.
Currently I build IP networks for large enterprises, as a consultant for a major computer company (Hewlett-Packard), where I've been for about 25 years. It's an interesting job, and rewarding in most ways. I've also taught college, installed and supported enterprise computer systems (including a few in Singapore and Alaska), and built houses with Habitat for Humanity...Expand for more
. I like the concept of helping others help themselves, rather than just throwing money at problems.
More recently I've gotten involved with Corvettes. The Shelby has reached a point where it's not a car, nor a hobby. It's become a retirement investment. So the Corvettes have the appeal of being fast, fun, and inexpensive enough that they can be used. Besides, the newer ones get fantastic mileage (average 24 in my 2002 convertible), and when you get into the AARP age range, the insurance is reasonable. The Corvette as an economy car - who knew?
Unlike most adoptees (at least based on what I see on the web), I've met my biological mother and several siblings. It's been an interesting experience. We're similar in ways, and different in others. My adopted brother and I are closer and, oddly, my daughter is more like the adopted brother than the biological relatives. Interesting world.
