Timothy's Story
Classmates.com now asks us for a STORY?
They used to simply request a Life Bio.
Well, how about just one decade...?
Brief?
That isn't simple for me to tell any story briefly. :-D
The ADHD thing (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) has really gone crazier than usual after I experienced a stroke in early 2011, but here goes.... :-/
If I croaked tomorrow, I can honestly say that I've made some terrific friends and had a really fun adventure on this planet this time around, and it will be even more so next time around! Then again, if all things actually happen simultaneously, I'm still enjoying it all NOW. ;)
That was the brief version.
Now for the extended version .. feel free to skip this more narcissistic version...
2001-2002: Moved from the Pacific Northwest down to the Southwestern USA after "federal school" (perhaps more on that further down) and a second divorce .. I had become an IT guy (Information Technologist) and CA (Commercial Artist) doing a sampling of many things .. mostly commercial graphics for printed collateral and websites .. some airbrush artwork (both forms; traditional/analog and digital illustrations) .. a little image retouching (using Photoshop and other creative software .. also PowerPoint Presentations and courtroom timeline charts. The client who kept me the busiest by far was a retired NSA agent who taught classes around the world (met him in a law library while I was doing some independent legal research). Much of that time, I was working remotely while living in a little cabin in the desert at the foot of the Organ Mountains of New Mexico. It was very peaceful being surrounded by many spectacularly-colored hummingbirds, or other critters passing by. When I was ready for more human contact, I enjoyed trekking around White Sands or into Las Cruces or even down to El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico to go Salsa dancing, as well as doing the Rumba, Argentine Tango, Texas Two-Step and also several styles as a beginner (Bachata, Cumbia, Zydeco, Zouk, etcetera). While living there, I learned to LOVE DANCING!
2003-2004: After a bizarre set of circumstances (after having done research and IT work with that retired NSA agent, I obtained an invitation to live and work in the British West Indies (BWI) in the leeward islands area of the Caribbean in the tiny country/island of Anguilla (by government work permit). The island is only about 16 miles by 3 miles; far smaller than here in Chelan County, Washington, USA. I worked for over a year as an Information Technologist for a Lex Mundi listed law firm and seconded out to a few of their clientele. The people, in general, were extremely kind, and although some thought I might feel out of place living on a rock (small island) and being the minority, I felt quite at home there.
2004-2005: Left the islands to work for a private bank in Geneva, Switzerland .. and I had the use of the company Mercedes (with stickers to make border crossing simpler), as I lived across the border in Divonne Les Bains, France. They did ask me to act as a chauffeur at times (as I'd done in the Caribbean (In Anguilla we drove on the left, and while in Saint Martin, on the right; different islands, different traffic rules and local styles) ... I didn't mind, and I was asked to be the designated drive often, as I didn't care which side of the road I was on ;). This way I was able to live far more economically over the border n an old French farmhouse (ultra-modern inside, with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, heated tile floors, fancy appliances) located between the French and Swiss Alps. I worked one or two days a week in the Swiss office (the parking garage was under the Rhone River), usually security-testing the SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) system and a few other tech chores. But the website work or online work was usually done remotely from home in France. By having control of the company car, I was playing chauffeur more and more .. whether delivering someone to the airport or bringing them up through Mont Blanc from Northern Italy, Novo Mesto, Slovenia, etcetera. It was a wonderful trade-off, and I thought I might like driving a real stretched limo one day (and that dream came true a couple of years later).
2005-2006: Continuing to work for the Swiss AG (AG is their version of an INC or corporation), but far more remotely, I headed back to New Mexico, so I could dance again. Then, as is common for me, I overlapped projects, by getting back into designing websites, creating trading cards for Southwestern hot-air balloonists, business cards, postcards, tourism rack-cards, blah blah blah.
2006-2007: Moved to Seattle, as the desert view from my last Las Cruses home was being blocked by a new house being constructed (I missed having that unobstructed view), and for a change to cooler weather for a while (as well as for returning to college to update my education a bit at UW and Bellevue College). During summer break, I got a call from Geneva and was flown to Kowloon, China (across the bay from Hong Kong, where my "little sister"; a long-time close friend of the family was working) to speak at a conference on some of the private bank's newer security measures which had been put in place before I left. I also got to go into mainland China for a short visit to Shenzhen and a city I forgot the name of, where I got to see just a few of those many Terra Cotta warriors (of the many thousands that were being dug up).
2008-2011: Applied at Microsoft among 30,000 applicants for a commercial artist position. It got down to 6 people, and I didn't make it. When I asked, they shared that I seemed not to stay more than a couple of years at most jobs before wanting to do/learn something else and moving on. So, I ended up freelancing part-time as a resume "sourcer" to a recruiter who did work for Microsoft, while I went back to college again. I created fancy Boolean search strings to find candidates for open positions at Microsoft, and later did sourcing/recruiting work for X-Box, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Yahoo, Google, and a long list of other tech or environmental companies (like Secor International) over the next few years. But at school, too many professors were teaching on matters where the details were OFF (econ, business law, etcetera), which I'd already researched as falsehoods while at Gonzaga Law Library years earlier. Even after I cited documentation in my research, they said I had to alter/adjust it and regurgitate the versions of the truth as it appeared in the textbooks (often years old) to get a good grade. So, I dropped out of school AGAIN after finishing my marketing classes. I used to do a lot of bizarre research in my past that most people cannot believe (example: it took me almost three years to find the "precise and scientific" definition for "income", which I will NOT share here (no, it isn't in Black's Law, nor in the college textbook on Income Tax, although the index pretended it did, it danced around it and called it a "game" a couple times). Most people's heads might implode if they knew human beings ear...Expand for more
n compensation but not income and that corporations are the entities that earn "income". But since people in general already swore "under penalty of perjury" that they do earn income, they'd very likely go to prison for perjury anyway (a federal crime). So, I NEVER ADVISE ANYONE challenge the "game". Besides, a federal judge informed me that, "In my courtroom, the law doesn't matter; what matters is my own opinion.", (that seems to be why Judge Judy does not need to KNOW all the facts and she can do what she THINKS is equitable, based on her OPINION). Since 1913, it seems people have been taught to perjure themselves unwittingly as if they are a dead entity or corporation earning "income" by many, many little gambits not taught in traditional schools. Even with documented evidence to the contrary, most professors demand they and we regurgitate the party-line bull because the legal "truth" is too disturbing for them to swallow. And NO, I am NOT a tax protester. I even pay more than required; far more than "my fair share" (even of the known scams) and no longer bother to "file" for a return (even though I acted "pro se" (as self), in federal court along ago and won over a similar matter (as I am a national of these United Staes of America, not a US Citizen; different jurisdictions. Why do I pay it anyway, under duress and distraint? Because the law doesn't matter... And because I don't get an ulcer fretting about the so-called "filing season" (no more need for me to add up silly little receipts and such) :-D
Later, when I moved to North Bend, I began driving part-time for a nearby tribal casino, acting as valet for exercise while parking or running up the hill to fetching a Ferrari, or Maserati, junkers, etcetera, and at times, chauffeuring celebrities to and from their hotels in one of the casino's Cadillac Escalades. About a year into that, I was speaking with a couple who owned a limousine fleet and saw me driving celebrities. They asked me to also work part-time as a chauffeur for their clientele. Eventually, limousine driving hours got crazier .. 4:pm to 4:am and longer (I think 15 hours was the legal limit then, with basic time to sleep between shifts).. up all night, literally. I was running only on adrenaline and didn't realize at that timing, I also had sleep apnea with terrible cortisol levels. Then that stroke happened, which slowed me way down and also wiped me out financially. I went to take a step and my entire left side simply gave out and I just plunked over onto the floor, unable to even lift my arm to slow my descent. Just like that, I no longer could work and only had enough funds to last me for a few months
2011-2013: Convalescing while broke, an opera-singer friend invited me to stay in her house which had one of those angled-elevator chairs over the stairs to sit on to get up to my room (the Yarrow Point house had a dock on Lake Washington; a short way north of Bill Gates house and the Evergreen Bridge. She also took me to her doctor of acupuncture in North Seattle (I walked markedly improved each time I left his office). When well enough (but still feeling grumpy), I moved to the desert again (lower heating bills), but this time, about 10 miles south of Apache Junction in San Tan Valley, Arizona (where a relative had an empty investment house that would eventually need an interior paint job, when I was up to the task; I painted the entire interior with the help of a nephew in less than two years). It was 120-degrees in summer there! I met a kind Gila Indian lady there who used to do competitive dancing. She was very patient in my relearning of basic steps for a couple of dance styles (out at the San Tan Flat venue in the cooler evenings). Eventually, the limousine company paid me to move back up to the Seattle area (the neurologist had cleared me for driving again only five months after experiencing that stroke. I never lost such older skills), and in June of 2013, I went back to work as a chauffeur. but I didn't choose to work as many hours as they were hoping. So, I moved back over the Cascade Mountains to the Lake Chelan area. I had owned a small offset printing company there from 1979 to about 1984. Several friends there had invited me to stay in their guest rooms. I managed to forge some great lasting friendships there long ago and it was so good to be invited back to the community. I taught myself to do spherical panoramic photography at a friend's video production studio, creating "virtual tours". July of 2013 I assisted that friend in some videography (hand-off documentation) for Microsoft's Columbia Data Center in Quincy (new data centers were going up by government mandate, but I don't think I was supposed to say that; oops!). And that August, I was sent to the Yahoo Data Center in Quincy to do a similar project (I was not a good videographer and he had to edit the crap out of it and reshoot some). However, my virtual tour photography was coming along well.
2014-2020? Maybe I'll type that up another time.
If you actually read this far, you must be a masochist. But thank you anyway! However, I think I wrote all that as a way to give my memory a workout. :)
As a further exercise, I don't yet think I'm up to seeing if I can recall enough to condense life between 1973 up to 2000, but here is a rough draft to maybe edit later.
1973-2000: FLASHBACK .. At age 18, I still worked for the Weeds Department of the WSU/USDA Research Facility (the Experiment Station), where I had worked summers since age 16, then overlapped and Kraft Foods (later became Milne Fruit Products) as a forklift driver. I had my first "professional" (wink wink) art job at Dwinnel's Central Neon (as a sign painter in Yakima), where I learned about airbrush painting, French-quill sign-writing, and far more. Married a couple of years, then divorced (remained friends) .. Then too many other jobs to mention .. including also, sign painting in Tucson and Anaheim .. having a printing company with a design studio in Chelan .. owner of a popular informational/inspirational/instructional video store I built in Seattle (Video Quest) .. freelanced as indoor artificial environments design work in Seattle .. information tech and test line instructor for Nintendo of America in Redmond, about 1989 .. airbrush illustration in Oregon while at federal school for 5 years (plus another 5 years on paper) .. Married again and divorced a couple of years later (she was a nice person while on her meds, but the borderline personality disorder was getting dangerous ever few months) .. computer graphics (catalog, poster, product design, and webmaster) for Spokane-based environmental products corporation in 1995 .. fiber optics work along with CATV, TELCO (cable television, telephone and broadband Internet service installations) at AT&T while also doing specialty investigative research at Gonzaga Law Library on the side .. then as Information Technologist, off to New Mexico (see back at top, "2001-2002).
That is not all, but it will suffice.
Writing this has been a terrific mental exercise, if only for myself.
Warm regards anyway,
Tim O.
