Tim's Story

Life After graduating from TD in 1987, I attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. I continued to run for 4 years while at Harding. Track season of 1990, I was conference champion in the 800 meters and quailified for the national meet. Cross-Country season of 1991, I led the team by placing 8th in the conference meet and qualified for the national meet. Spring of 1990, I started dating Beth and married her May of 1992. We both graduated from Harding in 1993 and then moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas were we lived until May of 1998. November 1997 our first son (Brennen) was born. May of 1998 we moved back to Searcy and I began working with the Searcy Police Department. July of 2001 our second son (Carter) was born. 2003 we built a house on the family farm just north of Searcy. School WOW!! I had an absolute blast during my time at Carver Middle School. Hanging out with Marc Lancaster, John King, Mike Cole and others. Coach Williams taught me a lot, not just all about basketball. I have great memories of playing basketball, running track and singing in the chorus. And what can I say about my time at Thomas Dale. Boy, those were the good ole days. Running track and cross-country with Louis Hawkins, Avis Wyatt and others. Sing and acting in musicals with John King and Ward Bizzel. Hanging out and goofing off with Marty Wells. College Ok, everyone from Chester thought that I was crazy for going off to college in Arkansas. Harding University was the best experience of my life (short of getting married and having kids). From day one, my best friend was Ken Edwards from Missouri. Ken and I went everywhere and did everything together. Our experience together on the track and cross-country team would be a sorce of strength for both of us. I loved running at Harding. Coach Lloyd would challenge me each day. My freshmen year was tough. We had a large group of freshmen on the cross-country team and we were all running after just 2 open slots on the varsity team. Track was somewhat better. I broke 2 minutes in the 800 meters. Cross-Country in my sophmore year was disappointing, I learned that I needed to train harder during the summer. Track that year was AWESOME! I had a major break through. I had a real good indoor-track season and carried that strength over to the outdoor season. Myself and 3 other members (Ken, Jason and Nathan) qualified for the indoor national track meet on the 2-mile relay. I ran a 1:57 in the 800 meters indoor to anchor the the 2-mile relay. Outdoor track, I ran a 1:54 in the 800 meters, and had personal best times in the 1,500 meters and the 1/4 mile. Cross-Country my junior year was a bitter/sweet year. I really came on late in the season to peak just at the right time. I led the team that year with an 8th place finish at the conference meet, which qualified me for...Expand for more
the National meet, but it would be the 1st year in 17 years that Harding did not win the chamionship. The National meet was AWESOME. Large feild and it was COLD (the race is held in mid to late November in Wissconsin). Track my junior year was up and down. I pushed myself really hard in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters. I placed 3rd in both events at the conference meet, which was a bit of a let down. I knew that I was good enough to win both events. By my senior year, I knew things were winding down. I really struggled in Cross-Country that year. The good news about that year was that Harding won the conference title back. And then there were ALL of the roomates. I had the worst luck keeping a roomate. Andrew, Chad, David, Joel and Damon. The best and longest roomate that I have had has been Beth. Going on 15 years this May. My sophomore year was a blast. Hanging out with Tony, Chandra and of course that was when I met Beth. Chandra was on the track and cross-country team and was roomate with Beth. My senior year at Hrading was tough, Beth and I were engaged and married for that year, both of us working part-time jobs and trying to finish out school. Workplace My first full-time job after college was at Pleasant Vallry Church of Christ in Van Buren, Arkansas as a Youth Minister. Pleasant Valley was like heaven on earth. What a great place to be working. The Church there was alive and growing and we absolutely loved it there. I really enjoyed working with the teens there as we went on trips together to youth events, retreats and camps. Summer of 1996 and 1997 we even made mission trips to Nicaragua. We had great friends there, Bear & Jill, Larry & Shelly, Mike & Susan and Daniel & Susan. Jim Bullock (Jimbo) was not only my co-worker but my mentor and best friend. We had great times together, especially on our days off (Mondays usually). On Mondays, Jim and I could be found on the golf course, eating Pizza or Chinese. May 1999 I began working for the Searcy Police Department. While living in Van Buren, I hung out a lot with Daniel at the Van Buren Police Department. After moving back to the Searcy area in May 1998, I decided to change my career. I have enjoyed police work since day one. Police Academy was 12 weeks long and I really enjoyed my time there studing and training but I did not like being away from Beth and Brennen that long. I worked out on the streets in patrol for 1 1/2 years before working at Searcy High School as School Resource Officer. The work as SChool Resource Officer allows me to do 2 things that I really enjoy, police work and working with kids. As school resource officer, I have plenty of opportunities to give presentations and do public speaking. Highlights in my law enforcement career include receiving the 2001 Humanitarian Service Award and 2004 Officer of the Year.
